Morning all, not sure if this is the right car for this forum but as an ex Avant owner i feel sort of qualified
Ok, quick rundown, playing around on ebay late one sunday night, woke up monday morning owning this black 1994 80 2.0E, was taxed and tested, had two new front tyres, new brakes all round and a new cat-back exhaust. Looked like death mind and had some very odd looking marks and stains on the interior, but seemed to drive ok and had 1/2 a tank of the green stuff in. One 350 mile trip home later and all was still well.
Dug the vax out later in the week and gave the inside a damn good clean, came up well and started to think i hadn't done too bad buying this, outside was washed and scrubbed and noticed there was no rust anywhere apart from a small spot above the n/s rear light cluster on the 1/4 panel, not bad. 5mm twin red coachlines adorned each side so 4 hours one sunday morning with the heat gun, some G3 and some stolen solvents from work put pay to that, bootlid badges were removed aswell due to being dull and pitted. Painted the number plate surround in body colour - black?! - i know but it had gone grey and horrible, and painted the chrome surround on the grill aswell.
Starting to look ok, but ala Jas11n also decided the front bumper is reminisent of a power boat so a plan hatched.......................................
Month later Mot was due and booked her in at my usual place, few laughs and smirks later, one fresh ticket with one advisory for the cat, still lokking good. 6 months tax (didn't want to tempt fate) and off we go again, had a new cat fitted for £90 and decided on a mini service, plugs etc.....
Month later bought a crashed V6 Coupe with a good heart, plan B formed
Month later plan C formed keep the 2.0 in, crush the coupe but keep the hardware.
Week later plan C looking iffy as the cam belt tensioner siezes on the 2.0!
Plan C back on as cam belt still intact..............
Present day...... Time for the spanners..............
So this is yesterday, strip down and find all still ok, jut a seized tensioner, decide to replce the water-pump also, working ok but looked old, wrong, after taking the pump off noticed the impellor was in two pieces, car wasn't overheating though
Replace and refit everything, yes i did put a new cam-belt on!, started her up, all ok.
Will test drive today as, well you never know do you.
Hope this project will not bore anyone or upset anyone with it being on the S2 forum, will probably follow Jas11n's project Sooty but with a few twists, i hope.
