Another issue unfolds...........
After putting the car back together following the tensioner episode it seemed a little sluggish to me, ok i had been running around in our A3 for a week or so but still, something wasn't quite right. I rechecked all the timing marks and they were still spot-on and also replaced ther dizzy cap and fuel filter as they were of un-known age, still no good.
After much head scratching i 'phoned a friend' and shot him 20 questions, "Bring it over and i'll cast an eye over it, don't forget the beer and pizza" came the reply.
20 mile drive south to Stroud to hand it over to the expert saw her die about 200 yards away from his workshop, luckily it was down hill so let her roll.
"That's shot then" was the first comment i had, "Pizza?" was the second.
He found the dizzy was totally shot, and the wrong one for my car, "Hang on, there's an old Golf sat up in next doors unit, give me a sec"
10 minutes later and i was now the 'proud' owner of the worlds worst looking distributor ever known to man, but it worked, worked well.
After an hour and him chucking the dizzy in she burst into life, another hour of him checking, adjusting, driving, checking again saw her purring like she has never done so in my ownership, gone are the hesitations, slight misfires and rough running.
So this is what a 115 bhp 80 feels like, strange that, as i always thought it was dire.
Fuel economy is better, starts better, sounds better and also more importantly it drives a hell of a lot better.
Oh, the cost of him playing for well over 3 hours and a second-hand distributor?
1 chicken supreme deep-pan and 12 bottles of Becks, and i 'had' to use his XJR to go to Pizza Express too.
Lower arms, anti-roll bar bushes and drop-links next, may have a lowering kit on the way too, but more on that later.
