    220v > Rs2

Since my 200 20v decided to say "boom" 2 weeks ago, I've decided to upgrade it to RS2 specification. My mechanic still didn't open it, but engine block have a nice hole, so I bought another one (block), together with crankshaft. I am expecting a set of Aron's conrods, but I also bought a set of genuine used RS2 conrods with pistons, so I still didn't decide which rods to use (with this engine I don't plan to go over RS2 specification, say 350hp). So, here are a few questions:

    1) any special considerations fitting a new block and crankshaft to an "old" head ?
    2) are RS2 pistons a "straight swap", same dimensions as original 3b?
    3) are Mahle piston rings a good choice ? What about "racing" Mahle rings like these: http://tinyurl.com/6rem9f ? Any other ring choice ?
    4) For a bottom end, I plan to use OEM RS main and rod bearings, would 034 "coated" items be a better choice ?
    5) Is it good idea to fit used OEM RS2 rods to this engine, and save Aron's items for new engine I plan to build next year ?

As for other parts, so far I have original RS2 EM, 034 RS2 replica injectors, 7A camshafts, 7A fuel pressure regulator, 3 bar MAP, RS2 3b software (said to be made by MTM) and today I will buy RS2 turbo. As for IC, my plan is to use the following item: http://tinyurl.com/6ybf9j

    Any other sugestions ?

    Thank you,
    Mario

    Mario,

    1) is the head 3b spec? if so i dont know what specs you need to change/improve.

2)Pistons should be a straight swap, but if you need to change the cylinders diameter, then you will have to go oversize pistons

3)You can get the OEM piston rings.they are quite good

4)I believe OEM RS2 bearings are better than the coated 034.

    5) depends on what kind of engine you are planning to make next year, and also depends on what kind of boost you are planning to run with this engine if you are to use the rs2 turbo

also, why go for the rs2 turbo when you can get a bigger one for the same money? GT3071R or GT3076R?

Both "new" block and my "old" head are 3b spec. My question was mainly about if I should expect some known problems mixing engine parts like this. My project for next year will be AAN engine with GT3071R, to be fitted into my current A6 2.8Q avant. As for the rs2 turbo, I'm buying used item for around 500 EUR - don't want to spend a fortune to build this car since I plan to build another one anyway.

OK, so parts list looks like following:

      - OEM RS2 piston rings
      - OEM RS2 main and rod bearings
      - OEM head studs
      - metal head gasket
      Anything else ?

      Thank you,
      Mario

        looks

        good.
Like you said stick with oem rs2 if you get it cheap and if, you are going tops 400-420hp.

save the rods for the aan. No problem to mix the head with block as long as its ok, head skimmed and well you know. Also look into and uprated clutch, the 3b one isnt that good.

I will be quite satisfied with, say, 350 crank HP in this car, so, it seems I will just reuse RS2 conrods.
As for stronger clutch, I have nice discount at Sachs, what should I use, their "organic" item ?
Also, there is a question of rotor arm - I have found that item.no. 052 905 414C is the correct one, but where do I buy it ? Is it Audi or Bosch number ?

          Thank you,
          Mario

            OK, found this one:

"Just to update this for future reference, the Bosch part number for the 10mm wide 3B rotor arm is 1234 332 414, this cost me £4.49 from my local Bosch dealer. The Toyota part number that Stu posted up ( Toyota rotor P/N 19102-02020 ) will get you exactly the same part but it'll cost you £8.21. If you go to a Bosch dealer make sure you quote the part number, I gave them my reg no. to start with and I got the wrong one.
Oh and the Bosch part number for the distributor cap is 1235 522 405, £14.40."

What studs should I also renew when rebuilding engine, except for head studs ?

                  well

always renew, headbolts for shure, if you use arp, reuse the original chims from the old bolts, spreads the force better in the holes.

Few problems: Audi don't ofer main nor rod bearings in (+.25) size, so I have to look somewhere else. Does Glyco and Mahle have good reputation for these ?
Also, they quoted me over 400 EUR for a set of piston rings - that sounds way toomuch for me, so I will probably go with Mahle racing rings (link is in 1st post).

I think you need the fuel pressure reg too.

                        Have 7A (4 bar) item.
Right now I have the following problem: my friend who is into I5 engines way more than I am, is telling me it's a bad idea to "rework" (i don't know english term for this) crankshaft for 0.25 mm. What is common opinion about that ?

                          if

crankshaft is ok, no scrathes that can be felt, seen. Then it is enough to polish the crankshaft.

Thanks, but I decided to find better block and crankshaft and to use standard bearings. Already bought it.
