porsche or hi specs front brakes???????????????????
porsche or hi specs front brakes???????????????????
hi, has any one ever tried the hi spec front brake kit on there s2, think it comes with 6pot and 312mm discs or are the porsche 4 pots up to the job?????? the car is going to be used as a track day car but will be lighter than stock 2,
Opinions please..........
Personally I'd go for the Porsche set up. I have the Porsche calipers with 323mm S8 discs. There one advantage for a start bigger discs. Plus there is a wide range of pads for the Porsche calipers, and there is many for sale on eBay and sometimes here. Easy to get hold of. I have them and can't fault them.
Bigger disc does not always mean better performance, half the Porsche setups have too big a disc as the pad contact area is not the same.
You want the lightest setup possible with matching pad to disc swept range. In that respect they should be up to the job but I'm not a great fan of Hi-spec stuff
if the pad contact on the disc is correct then the larger diameter disc does mean more breaking torque, ive also got the porsche boxster s calipers and 323mm discs, and they are a decent setup, i too am not a fan of the hi spec kits

Thats the whole point monoblocks dont cover the whole of the 323mm disc, you get the same performance using them with 314 discs
ive got porsche 4 pots 314mm disc. Great setup for the odd trackday, I can count on one hand the amount of times ive had fade with use on an raf airstrip (really grippy tarmac, like sandpaper) slowing from 160mph to 30mph.
Only gripe ive found is if they sit for a month or so the pistons can seize and cause squeal.
I personaly think that the mono's fade to quickly for hard track use. I had them on 323mm discs and can't say I was that impressed. But bang for buck they are great. Maybe something slightly larger from Porsche or Audi? Don't buy high spec that's for sure
Monoblocks, DS2500 314 or 323 discs, depends on 16 or 17 inch wheels, me, Newsh, S2driveruk and many others use this exact setup on track and they're fine for a 15-20 minute session or lap of the 'ring, get bloomin' hot then they work really, really well, never found them wanting. If you've got £1.5k to throw at brakes then the RS4/6/phaeton brakes are hard to beat but ideally need a rear upgrade too and you need to get 18s that clear, replicas can struggle. I've got DS2500s on stock rears and they're fine, the back lifts pretty high unless you're running stiff springs anyway. As ever, it depends on budget. GT3 mono 6 pots and 345 discs is a nice option for c.£1k.

I run both these set ups, Porsche on the Avant and Hi-spec on the Coupe ...Hi spec are good stoppers and very light but thats were it ends ..I have had a sticking piston after 5000miles..no anti rattle shims , no dust covers ...so when you brakes are cold they rattle and sqeal like mad and drives me nuts ...The carriers they make at the workshop for mounting onto the S2 are crap !!!...I had loads of arguements with them regarding fitment ..they told me bolt on and I ended up having to space out join due to locking disc on caliper ..customer service is crap to ...Go for Porsche!!
