    Project Airfix Kit

    Starting this thread for madwolf

Well alot of you know about madwolf's purchasing of dest/johnnyboy's avant

And his desire to turn it into a redneck pickup s2 truck

Well that idea has died a death for the time being after alot of complaining by people and alot of telling him it ain't worth the hassle even tho I went as far as getting quotes for the work from a fellow forum member.

Well thanks to Sal for helping to bring the car down to my lockup in Swindon from Ely in Cambridge and helping to offload the car from a pallet before taking my ur quattro up for spraying. We managed to do that in around half hour/fourty five minutes.

Well I started having a look around the car this week because Gary wasn't able to get down to do it himself, there was quite a lot included in the deal for the shell but a few things that he's chasing up about currently. After moving it around in my lockup ready for him to turn up this weekend we had a proper look at what we had.

Well after getting everything out the car we had a quick look and its obvious there's still quite a lot missing from the car that we need but most things I either have or can source quite easily.

I managed to get gary to get all the water out the inside of the car and its cleaned up quite nicely inside but i'm waiting for him to upload the rest of the pictures

    some before

I also got him to source the following bits:

    Rear subframe
    sideskirts
battery tray (we've since found another one in the car)
Pearl blue s2 front bumper - i've told him someone who has one
Rear hubs from a 2.8 q saloon - i've told him where to source these
Dash - couple in my lockup but not mine
    fusebox - same as above

parts I already have for him:

    Rear bumper
    Sunroof cartridge and panel
aero wipers from my ex s2
complete interior loom from an avant I had lying around in a couple of bags
    probably more i've forgotton

    Bits we have:

    full front/rear suspension
    all door trims
front/rear seats (waiting to hear about door cards)
    crossmember (wrong colour)
Donor car for the engine and anything else we need
    diff
    gearbox
    strut brace
    full interior loom
    abs unit
    plus loads of other bits
oil cooler - this will be used on the new lump
aero wiper for the boot lid.
    90 rear panel

The most annoying bits that will hold the project up as far as I can see will be funds (Gary's not mine) and trying to find nuts/bolts etc to fit the whole car where we don't have these supplied.

We've started on it today and just had a big clearout of the car to see whats in it and what we still require, so far we've got the car emptied out and dried out, managed to fit some panels to the car, used my loom and seperated it into the five small looms, 3 of which are fine 2 of which need some tidying due to alarms etc. We've already fitted all the abs loom since that was the first sepearated and it all fitted in and is done now ready to be connected to the diff lock plug and the abs sensors so its nearly there, one loom down.

We also fitted a lot of the smaller bits just so they are actually on the car and not laying around getting damaged.

When Gary gets on and sorts out and uploads some more pictures I will upload them. Hopefully the car should not be too much problems, we've got most items as mentioned and the donor car for the engine and a few other little small bits.

One other thing that was a bit annoying is all the little cable tags have been damaged or missing and the same with the big white one's, we are sorting this out tommorow so will be putting the wiring in properly before fitting the rear subframe tomorrow evening providing we get hold of the last couple of bits we need then that will all be done.

    Abs loom trial fitted

Drivers footwell dried out and battery wiring started fitting

    outside

    Engine bay

    Some more bits

Good luck chaps, beast of a job there. Stripped various areas on my S2 and it's hard enough when you know what, where and how!

Cheers for that andy, I was quite lucky in that i've stripped a few avants before (not s2's apart from one) for parts so know how they go back together and I also stripped the interior loom out of matts2's avant (cheers mate) for when I had my tdi avant so I knew where most goes back together. Its just the little bits thats a pain in the ***.

One thing that i'm dreading is if I get to the point of putting something back in then realising that something else goes before it, hence the heaterbox is not going in before the loom.

heya mate, looks like a few weekend work there! Still, good chance to cle3an everything and make good all the dodgy bits you find along the way..... just make sure Madge doesn't add any new ones

Careful with those white loom clips along the floor pan they are NLA now, i'm still trying to find some for my car

can you take some pics of the battery wiring into the fuse box when you do it? I've still not moved my battery to the lovely ABY box it took me ages to install
Still need to do the wiring, will probably use a URS4 loom for mine but i giess the fuse box end is the same?

Also I have a box full of nuts & bolts etc from when I refreshed my underbody and suspension, i repalced most stuff with new OEM or stainless, so can bring it down next weekend to you if its any assistance mate?

That would be a big help re the nuts/bolts as its the one thing that I think will cause the most issue's (well apart from gary)

Yeah those white clips are all damaged on the car its like how easy is it to push them so they just unclip.

Apparantly the wiring for the battery in the boot costs somewhere in the region of £300 from audi I got informed on friday And from what i've seen consists of 2x big thick cables going to the battery, one end is a normal ring outlet and on the other the first smaller cable just has one of the plugs for the fuse box, the other end i'm not sure yet as its been pulled back slightly and think its behind a heat shield in the engine bay so going to get at that today.

It would be so easy to replicate using stuff from halfrauds and save you a load of money.

Dest sold it to johnnybravo on here, and afaik it has been crashed on the drivers side as the inner wing has a bit of paint work done there but its not too bad.

Its definately not going to be an aby, we've sourced the engine to go into it just have to go remove it from the car in a few weeks.

I'll have a look now mate, just got so many still sorting thru i've been missing a couple lately.
