    Let the spending begin.....

Spending money and me dont usually go , but seeing the audi basically dead on the drive every morning for nearly a year breaks my heart. So its time to do something about it.

So since ive collected most parts now and the rest on a plane from 034 its time to start a project thread to show you guys what surgery my S2 will be going through.

To start off with its having a full engine rebuild to what im hoping to be about 400bhp with a hybrid turbo, tubular manifold, full exhaust, 440cc injectors, balanced crank, aronmatic conrods, homfried ECU, larger IC and AAN inlet manifold.

Whilst the engine will be out the under bonnet is having a respray in original colour.

This will be my budget blown for a while but soon after upgrade brakes that will fit under 16 inch Avus wheels. Any suggestions?

Pictures to follow and many questions for the S2 gurus out there!

    And let the questions begin!

Is a RS2 MAF an upgrade over the ABY? i have a reciept for one but dont know

Can anyone suggest someone that does crank balancing, heared the 5 cyl crank is rather tricky?

The RS2 MAF is pretty much the same as both the 3B and ABY units, though supposedly it flows ever so slightly better due to a less restrictive protective screen. They are all interchangeable though it's not really an upgrade as such. I'd leave the crank alone unless your planning on mental (600BHP+) power, Audi do a great job in the first place. Be prepared to become poor or at least less well off

As you are changing the rods I would get it balanced, Basset Down is the place..

I'd go for a cast manifold over tubular as you'd end up having to either brace the hell out of it or just reweld it all the time as they crack.

If you're going with a tubular EM then Repo on here has guidelines on the exhaust design that are worth following in relation to the flexi connector. Acidburn is right, the consensus for the majority of RS2+ spec cars seems to be the Wagner cast EM.

Enjoy the project, looking forward to an interesting thread.

Well I changed rods on my 3B and was told I didn't need to balance it as long as the rods were all the same weight, since then the motor has not been as smooth so in future I would always have a motor balanced if I was changing internals.

Due to volume most manufacturers don't work to the same tolerances in terms of balancing that a specialist will do, even a stock engine will benefit from a good balance.

                      How she looked this morning

@Acidburn, I allready have a tubular manifold, if it does crack and be aq pain ill soon change to a cast, Ive bought a turbo brace for it now.

And ive given Basset Down an email to see what he quotes me.

Whats needed for an AAN inlet parts wise? Longer throttle cable i guess is one thing.

Right there gas been a lot going on since sunday (pics to follow) the engine is out and my have i got some questions....

Where do i get a clutch cable of holding the above moifications capable of holding 450bhp and god how many torques!

On my pistons its stamped +86.08 or 05.12, are these over sized? And whitch piston rings do i need?

And the guy whos working on the engine is worried of idle problems with balancing the bottom end and said its not worth it ond what he calls basic mods. My question is, is it?
