Dmitri AKA prj did the mapping. He did a very thorough job too, constanly asking for my feedback and how I wanted to the car to feel. I wish I'd got a picture, my RS2 looked like the Time Machine with all the wires running everywhere - all it needed was a flux capacitor in the back! Dmitri had a huge set of det cans on the whole time and a macbook on the dash

The logs will give better answers - I was looking dead ahead, I've not been so scared of my own car since mapping the Coupe (RIP) But if I recall a 3rd gear pull from 2000rpm was giving 0.5bar at 3000, 1.8bar at 3800, 2.1bar at 4200. Still had 2bar at about 5k, 1.8bar at about 6k, 1.55 at redline.

He did push it to 1.65bar redline but it was starting to knock a little so better to pull a bit of boost and run more timing

What was your work-around for the turbo inlet? I think i remember you saying that the stock hoses wouldn't fit.

        sounds pretty good Ross,
i bet with the head work it should be much better than 410.

I tell you what, next time we meet, ill bring the perfomance box along and do some 3d or 4th gear runs to get some times of acceleration. That will give a good idea of how fast it is, and at the end its better than getting a raw figure on a dyno which you never know the excact circomstances!

Actually if you are ever up north, let me know, ill take you to 'my test track' !

Yep, I also enjoyed Dmitri mapping my car. A very positive experience - thanks PRJ!!
Looking forward to driving it to Spa at the end of this month for a very long weekend.

            Ross,

Nice one, glad to see you're on the payback phase after all your efforts to get the car this far.

Keep the thread going to continue to share the ups and downs, for the benefit of the rest of us.

            Kind regards.

I have a short metal pipe on the inside of the samco, sits in the tapered inlet on the turbo to ensure it can't move anywhere and then you can put a 2.75" sleeve over the samco and onto the turbo inlet.

Vas a bit of performance logging would be great, though I can't see myself being up your way any time soon. I really need to find some kind of g-tech device and see what's doing in the 50-90 range.

The car is so much better than before in every respect... not only am I seeing high 20s MPG on cruise but it rips through 3rd gear to the redline, is very responsive and gives 1bar+ boost from 3500rpm in 3rd,. It also pulls strong and smooth from 1000rpm in 6th at mid throttle, feels great off boost, my goodness I love this engine

                      Ross,

Are you still running the MD147 on yours? Boost profile sounds relatively similar. If you are the Turbo Dynamics recommended a max of 28psi boost too

Little a bit of a story, bear with me, I have nothing better to do on the plane anyway.

So we mapped Ross' car, but his MAF was bad, so we chose a "known good one", which turned out not to be a good one after all.
The fuel map was a little off, but I thought perhaps it's an issue with fuel pressure being a bit high down low - happens with old FPR's and 044's quite often.

Well, it turned out more complicated...

I found this out on Saturday night, but I had a flight Sunday morning.
So things did not look too good for Ross...
However, luckily for him, there was a 3 mile traffic jam at the airport, and I missed my flight by 30 seconds.

                              Yeah. 30 seconds.

So - phone Ross, and he is not picking up because he had some rather important things to do.
I finally catch him by spamming his PM with "PICK UP THE PHONE" on the forum...

The problem is - I was 30 miles away from Luton in the opposite direction from Ross.
How about going for a 200 mile drive Sunday night and skipping work the next day?
Or how about me doing an all nighter when I woke up with a flu the day before?
Well, he thought about it - and we did it!
He got to us at about midnight. And surprise - he brought Acidburn with him.
I was staying with Costash for the night, so here we are - 4 men like little children with their toys, skipping work, driving down 200 miles, not catching any sleep (My plane left quite early in the morning) etc...

Anyway, let's get back to the car.
Costash had a basically brand new MAF and Acidburn had a used MAF, which seemed good
So I pop on my standard base fuel map we fit Acidburn's MAF and the car is still running way rich everywhere.
Before - because it was running rich down low and too lean up top (bad maf), I just adjusted the fuel map to request more / less fuel, but that means if he ever fitted a new MAF, his car would not run properly.
In fact - when we fitted Acidburn's MAF, we hit fuel cut instantly, because it read about 15% higher up top.

But the fuelling was still off - the weird thing is - it was off everywhere, like the entire AFR graph is moved

0.6 or so points to the rich side.
I thought that was weird, because MAF's don't usually end their life like that - they start reading too high at idle and low load, and too low on boost.

So we fit Costash' MAF and you should see my face when we do a pull and they are within 0.1 AFR of each other.

Now, I said earlier that the entire map was like "moved down". That'd happen if you have the injector size set up incorrectly.
But Ross had EV14 510cc injectors. Or did he?
Well they look exactly the same as the ones I sell, except his are actually 550cc and he bought them from 034.

The moment I told Motronic that it's on 550cc injectors, everything snapped into place - the car ran like a dream without having to touch the fuel map at all.

Now, phew - everything is good.
                              Or is it?

I realize that I don't have my chip eraser - because I stayed most of the time at Richard's (hoffer76) place, and he has his own, so no need to lug mine around right?
This would be fine, if I had some empty chips. Chip after chip, every single one has something on it and the only flash erasable chip I had seems to have been forgotten at Richard's.
Finally I find ONE chip - but there is a problem - it is not fully erased. Luckily the 2 places that were not erased were in an area that is completely empty in Motronic with no data!
So I start writing the chip and about half way the write fails...

But when I remove the chip from the programmer, I realize that one of the pins of the chip had actually fallen off. So I solder on a new pin, cross my fingers, and continue the write. It completes, I plug the chip in the ECU, and everything fires up without checksum errors.

Okay, enough of the nerd talk. Let's talk numbers.
Ross gets 80% DC on his 550 injectors.
His FPR is 3.8 bar, which means that it must be 440+ horsepower.
In comparison, Richard's 430 PS and 600 NM (MRC Dyno) RS2 used about 72-74% of 550cc Dekas.
Ross' car is also running quite a bit more timing than Richard's due to having dropped CR.

Here is the log from the final pull:

15 deg at 2-2.1 bar through torque peak feels very nice.

I can see this car pulling at least 440 PS on the same Dyno and 650+ nm. The midrange on this thing from 3800 to 6000 is just brutal.
The turbo is a new style K26/K27 supplied by Richard. I would honestly say that this turbo is as good as the 3071R 0.82 A/R - and this at 2/3 the price and bolt-on KKK flange.

All that said. The turbo is too small. This car really needs a GT30R and a big MAF, it will make 500+ hp all day with only 250-300 rpm worse spool. I guess this is for when Ross gets bored of the power

Ross - congratulations on finally having a fast car again after all the grief you have gone through... I hope you had fun driving it back.
I for one, am looking forward to my warm bed, my wife, and a small vacation from Audi tuning... until the next weekend, as it's scheduled already...
