I wanted to check which line is the return line before I test it. The pressure sensor is on the bottom so I'm guessing the top. The engine hasn't run since yesterday, will it bed to be fun for a bit before I try it. Here are a couple of pics anyway.
From the date stamp it looks original. Will start to take a look by brake pedal while I wait for a reply

It may well be, im not the guru on part numbers but i'll look into it, from sounds of it with some of previous ebay listings they are the same but need to confirm itLeave a comment:

Would your servo be same a 90 2.3 20v or the coupe quattro 2.3 20v?Leave a comment:

woah, thats ridiculous price for it. Does anyone have the part number to hand for the hydraulic servo unit before I go searching around for it? If it is going to be that much the vacuum route will be the way to go, was hoping to get MOT next week but thats not happening now.
Will start to get under the dash so I can check the return flow from the servo, if that seems ok its more likely the master cylinder itself I guess. Again if anyone has part number would be much appreciated. I had a chat to my dad about it a little while ago and his initial thoughts is that it could be the master cylinder tooLeave a comment:

If you have to ask you can't afford it!
you can re-use your PAS pump - ghetto mod is to remove the pistons from the hydro brake stage in the pump

Sounds like I'm putting off the inevitable! How much is a new hydraulic servo?
Will change the bomb back over this week and check the servo. Little bit loathed to do vacuum conversion after fitting a brand new pas pump thoughLeave a comment:

I tried the brakes again after some lunch and the seem effective just going back and fourth but pumping brakes a few times with engine running the warning comes on pretty consistently and holding foot on brake it gradually goes to floor with a lumpy pulsing feel. Anything else I can try before I refit my old bomb? I'm going to check the servo as well and check how many drips come out.
In the meantime I started some other jobs, the passenger side window stopped working so had the switch off and voltage is going to the regulator, I've taken door card off in prep to do regulator, also found a three pin connector disconnected on bottom of door, not sure what its for? Do you have to remove window to get to the regulator?Leave a comment:

It didnt do it with my original bomb. Im starting to think vacuum will be a good choice.
PAS pump is new as the old one had a noisy bearing
Is there a bleed procedure needed after fitting bomb? Im thinking about refitting my original one back in for now thoughLeave a comment:

Beginning to sound like pump, if it is pulsing, or PRV, if that isn't built into the pump.Leave a comment:

Ive got both discs fitted now with the new carriers and set about fitting the second hand bomb I sourced from mrtat2k9 unfortunately it looks like its knackered.
Before fitting second hand bomb
So with my original bomb on start up the PAS reservoir would drain out about 1/2 of the reservoir and when you moved the car and reversed the red dash warning would come on for 3 beeps and go off and not be heard again. You could hear a ticking noise and if you held the pas pipe you can feel the pulses on the pipe.
After fitting second hand bomb
After fitting and running the engine, topping fluid up and doing a couple of lock to locks on steering I tried the brakes.- after 2 or 3 pumps the red warning light comes on consistently
- pushing on brake in gradually goes to bottom of travel and can feel the pedal pulsing
- I can hear the ticking noise now which is probably a good thing
Just stopped for a bite of lunch, thanks claire
, and will go check again as it could be as ive just got the new discs fitted on the back so ive got the calipers working on rear discs working now.
Any ideas either way?
