    Audi 80 Quattro Rally Car

My plan is to convert a 1991 2 litre 8v B3 80 Quattro into a road legal rally car. This is my first audi and my first project, im hoping to gain mechanical knowledge and skills out of this as well as an awesome Audi!

My friends drummer87 (kris) and madpugger (mike) will be able to give me some guidance if needed and of course all the audi nuts here on the forum will hopefully be able to guide me if needed!

So yesterday was the first time i had a look at the car with drummer87, we decided the first thing we were going to do was strip the interior. For this we used some sockets, screwdrivers and allen keys. It took us about 4 hours to do the majority of it. The problem with starting this project in winter is its snowing here in scotland and it gets dark very quickly As we're working outside on the car at the moment we also get very cold very quickly!

The car is in pretty good condition a few wee bits of rust but its expected with a 21 year old car. The front suspension needs to be fitted back on the car as does the wheels and the engine needs to be tinkered with to get it running. Theres a couple of little holes as well which will need to be welded up. Once these problems are sorted it will be going into a shed where the conditions will be much better!

So once these problems are sorted i will start to modify the 80, basically work from the ground up. As i'm hopefully going to enter a couple of rallies some essential modifications will have to be carried out like upgrading the suspension, wishbones, brakes, gear shifter. The overall plan down the line is to add a 20V I5 engine to it along with S2 running gears.

Below are some photos of the progress so far, i plan to keep this thread up to date with my progress. If anyone has any ideas about how to get the 20V I5 running in the 80 please let me know. Also if you think there is any other upgrades that are good let me know.

    Cheers
    Jamie

      Good luck with the project

I'm sure there was someone on here, with a 20v i5 in a b3 coupe. Should be nearly the same I imagine for an 80.

jamie@ you will need; the front mount for the chassi, for the engine.. you need to cut out theese bit very nicely from another car; then you need a subframe for a 5 pot/ or v6 car..... you may also use the subframe from a vw 32b with 5 pot... there are also different gearmont at the subframe if its a quattro car( the quattro does have 2 of the gearmount inweldet, and the front arb are different too.. and you may use the complete audi quattro 20v front subframe with strut and brakes.....

So the rear subframe can stay in place using the rear diff??

Was know that the engine mounts are wrong needing either a 90q as a donor car or order mounts from 034.

With drive shafts can the ones on the car be used or find a set from an s2 then guess hubs need to be changed for the 5x pattern.

It's a big list of things but one worth doing.

But as your saying if find subframe with suspension that will take care of the front end, change arb to s2 or rs2 maybe something else.

Good thing we don't have snow in Malta

On the first pic, looks like you took hostage a fair bit of grass, already done some rallying?
