Hi everyone
hopefully whoever reads this will be able to give me some much needed advice, info & opinions!
Finally I think it's time to buy a Donor Car for my much needed 1995 Coupe Project!
After some advice I am going to go down the lines of buying a 1.8T Passat donor car (probably a 20v sport, but advice is what I'm here for?)......Another reason why I thinking of buying a donor car is because I could use another car for work and a Passat Estate would be perfect!
Basically I'm thinking of doing a engine swap! For those of you who dont know my Coupe Project here's a link
Now for the questions!!....
Firstly, Is a engine swap between the cars possible? (I think so because from what I've been told a 1.8T Passat engine will go straight in, so shouldn't the coupe engine be able to go into the Passat?)
If this is possible then does it matter a lot about the mileage of the donor car? Im only asking this because I'm assuming that when doing the engine swap/conversion then the Passat engine would be stripped down and basically rebuilt? Also using upgraded parts like turbo, intercooler, and anything else the lovely people of this forum might want to advise me on?
Just to answer a few questions on why I might be doing this project!.... I've owned the car for over 14 years! I bought it after owning a VW beetle as a first car then on to a 1983 MKI Golf GTI Campain in Lhasa Green (which my parents stupidy sold for £600 after I got a driving ban when I was 18
Loved that car! wish I owned it now!!
Anyway.... back to the Coupe, it may disappoint a few of you but the coupe is not a S2 or even a Quattro
this being due to the cost of insurance and the car at the age of 22!
............ It is actually a 2.0E Coupe, boring yes! VERY!
I bought it from a company executive that had basically done mainly only motorway miles! It was in very very good condition, only the usual stone chips and wear to the leather on the drivers seat bolster.
I had big plans for the car as I've been into the VAG/Aircooled VW's etc, so at the time it was a nice investment and long term project! I know I know! Should have bought a S2 lol but NO WAY could have afforded one at the time, let alone the insurance!!!
So here I am still with the car, and finally looking to get towards the end of the project! (If there is EVER any end to a car project lol)
I've spent a fair bit keeping the coupe in mint condition exterior and interior, unfortunately I was never that bothered about the engine! It's been pretty reliable and has not caused me any problems up to 190,000 miles, but it's now definately the time for change!!!
Im not that bothered about it not being a Quattro due to just driving it around sensibly, plus we dont really get that much snow here in Bristol, although soon when the Ice caps melt and the gulf stream has gone maybe I'll change my tune!
So! Back to the Engine stuff!!... I'd be very grateful if any of you could give me advice on what parts I should look out for? and what to do with the engine? It would be nice to have around 200hp when needed, but most of the time it would be driven economically.
I've invested enough money in keeping this car in very good condition, so I hope you understand why I dont want to get rid of her!
Oh! one other thing! If anyone knows of a good Garage that is familiar with Audi Coupe's in the Bristol south west area then please please let me know!! As they will be doing this work for me
Many thanks,
Louie C
