    Just another AAN build

Thought to share my AAN build here.

At first, idea was to change H profile rods to stock block.
This was the point when it got out of hand.

I got myself a AAN block + crank and 3B head.

I knew the block had to be bored to 0,5mm oversize, so i bought JE pistons with heavy duty wrist pins.
Also i got H-profile rods, with arp2000 bolts

Before the block was going to other machine shop for oversize bore, my friend machined water jackets.
Also he took few kg:s off from the flywheel

After these, a machine shop did the 81,5mm bore and honing, line honing for new ARP main bearing studs, balanced whole engine etc etc.
Also they modify 3B head, so i can install a cam position sensor to it.
New hydraulic lifters and valve guides will be installed.
I was thinking of buying titanium retainers and harder springs, but those have to wait for next engine evolution.

So, i got block back from machine shop and cleaned all the surface rust and other crap off it.

Meanwhile head is under work, i got pistons coated with Techline CBX and DFL-1.

    Muffins in the oven

Measured some clearances with plastigauge and micrometer.

Crank sits well, ARP studs in place.

I am using hardened RS2 sputter main and rod bearings from kolbenschmidt.
Soon we are going to start building the engine, i have to get more parts, like ARP head studs and so on, but i´ll get them ASAP.

    Nice build so far !
    Keep up the good work!
What's the HP you're looking for from this engine?

With current holset HX35 Super, 500-550hp and ~650nm.
Little over 500hp and holset is maxed out.

Going to upgrade to bigger holset later, then maybe ~650-700hp.

Found a pic of flywheel before machining.

          Clutch is Sachs Race Engineering.
          Pressure plate 883082 999707
          Performance disc 881861 999802
          "Transmittable torque 520+Nm"
I have seen this package hold almost 720nm, so it should be enough with this setup.

Last summer I had Sachs sre -754 pressure plate and original aan clutch plate. It did slip little bit on 6th gear when I was going to the dyno.

After that I ran 18 quarter mile pulls on 1 day and several highway pulls and there was no slipping. Dynoed 604hp and 760Nm (@engine).

Great build, and good looking waterjacketing.

Just got a call from machine shop, cylinder head is ready and i´m going to pick it up tomorrow.

                  Anyway.
I have to assemble the parts back to the head myself... so maybe i´ll just order titanium retainers and stiffer spings also.

                  Any recommendations? FCP-Engineening?

I noticed one of your ARP main studs is shorter, is this a 034 Motorsport set? I bought a set from a Nordicaudi forum member and all those studs were equal lenght. I had to take the small oil return valve beneath the 3rd main cap to see how much I had to take off one stud. It wasn't much, I could barely see the stud in the return valve hole, but it wouldn't thread back in so I cut 2-3mm off the stud and it's all ok.

034M kit, one stud is shorter just for that reason.
