My 93 Audi S2 Avant brilliant black.

    Hello!
Im pretty new to this forum, but im a guy from norway. 21 year old and have the passion for cars, specialy VAG. My english writing/grama are not very good, so no laughing !
I have a thread on the norwegian audi club forum, so in the beging i will just copy and paste with english writing.

    Ok, back to the car.
The car is an Audi s2 brilliant black, that need som spit and shine.
It was the summer 2014 i found this on the internett, and did go seeing it.
It have been standing still for the last three years beacuse of the engine was going on 4 cylinders. Its seemd pretty okay, but have have the 22 year old bruces.
Rusty front wings, and the polish machine have burned true on the roof pilar. The paints itself looks like it been machine wash all the life, but i think i will get it pretty good with my Rupes Duetto 12.

The car doese have remote centrall locking, automaticly clima, cruise controll, heated seats and some more.

My planes with it is hopefully to have a full refurb, but at this moment the first i will do, is change every singel bushes, all wheel bearings, sandblasting and painting all the parts. It also are some rust around that will be taken care of now.
It also gone get back the orginaly S2 optic, and rs2 mirros. Also did just buy some a8 sport rims, wich gonne get some 225/40 18 Federal RS-R .

Heres a picture before it gone still in 2011, did lock pretty neat there hehe.

Ok, so the first thing i did check was the problem with the engine. At cold engine it did rune one all five, but after 5 minits it went to 4, and was offcourse no power in it. So did take the top cover off, and found this:

    .
    .
I dont know if it shows to good on the picture, but the holes was full of some sorts fluied. Did clean this up and mounted things back on, certain on that this did the problems.
Car fired up nice and did go on all 5, 5 minits later back on 4...
Ok, off again with the top cover and check over once more. So after som thinking i found out i could check how "firm" the sparksplug was. Every singel sparkplug was pretty lose, so after this it was time for a testdrive.
And wow, it did go flawless! So much more power than my 80 TDI, and was going like a dream! But the test run did reveal a bearing that was bad, so before any more test runs it needs a new bearing, and timing belt.

Looks a bit empty here now...

Picture from the work space, forget the pictur after mounting the bearing up again.

        The brakes was stuck

New switch, as you can see the old one was bad.

        Workplace:

Old rooten exhaust, gone fix something here.

that is one beautiful looking car you have even if it was taken in 2011. I only wish i could have owned such a car at 21. I like that colour a lot which as far as i can tell is an extremely rare colour on the S2.

Good idea of restoring the suspension along with the bushes first! Good choice in my opinion, get it rolling like a new one is always best if your going to enjoy the car. Summer wheels should be Mk1 Avus 18" S8 alloys. They are the best for these cars as they look awesome and still look OEM.Best wheel for size weight and looks.

Very nice car and a nice introduction to the forum. All the best with it.

Timing belt time! Im happy a did this before any testdrive, because the bolt was not thighed good! Losend it with almost no force.
But no marks of wear or something, so was just in time!

            Tool for holding the crankshaft:

And new timing belt, waterpump, runners and lower timing puller.

Thing on the way back on:

First startup after timing belt, here it was no MAF, so dident runt quite well

And the headlights with xenon in, these are on the way out! OEM here

Thanks alot! And im very pleased with getting this car at age of 21. Havent been to much of the fun and good stuff after i got 18, just beacuse i wanna fill in my dream, an s2!

Rolling like new is importent! And also take care of all rust!
Avus mk1 is my number one wheel i want on thise car, it fits so damn good!
But its very hard to get hands on, but i always have my eyes open, and money on the side to buy them! But in the worry with not getting these wheels to the summer, i bought some a8 Sports, wich i think fit pretty good to.

Got some more updates here, so ill just keep on updating!

So then it was time for oil change, and as usal with old cars, things doesnt go as planned....

The oil plugg was pretty stuck! I was allready buyed test plates to drive with that day 24.00, so i dident want risk this. The solutin was to pump up the old oil, off with the old oil filter and on with new.

Also a video from the egine, was geting all the air out of the coolant at this time.

Then it was time for a testdrive. I haven been so happy driving a car in a LONG TIME! Its somthing special with the five pot 20v turbo egine, and pulls quit good!
But as usal with old cars, it dosent come any good with out a problem. After 45 minits it beeging to missfire under load with turbo pressure. Sometime it runes like normal, but mostly it was missfiring. But more on that later, heres a picture of the car out on test drive:

It was time to tackl some minor problems:

Finally got my hands on an ABY airbox, not that easey to get hold on longer, and a bit exspensiv.

Got on a forge valve to try.

                          New F5DPOR sparkplugs.

                          New maf, orginal Bosch.

After all this it was time for a new test drive, but with no luck. Still the same problem, no fault codes. So my guessing is coils, i got 5 used coils i got cheap, so i will try them to the summer again.

So now it was time to get on this car, and begin inspecting. First thing i started on was taking of the rear bumper, and this was what i meet!

This was no fun to find, and the reason was quickly discovered. The "leak" pipe to the battery was not connected, and then the battery have probly leakend. A nice way to get some rust! Anyways, on the posetiv side its only the outsider, so easey to weld. Not sure yet if im gonna do it myself or let a company do it.
But a good note to you s2 guys! check that the "leaking" pipe is hooked on to the battery, or this will happend if your unlucky.

Then i got a message that Milltek was not gonna produce the exhaust anymore, and it was some discount on the 7 left in storage.
Was not planning on speending money here yet, but i couldent resist

And a littl visit out in the snow. the list that is missing was just borrowed out to my audi 80 tdi, was missing it there. Back on now!

So now where back to "these" days. Here did i take out all the inner surounds(?) and take a good wash! As usal some rust is found, but nothing that cant be fixed.
Ill just let the picture tell the story.
