          paint job

finally got it done ... some minor things should be sorted out till next weekend for VWTS meeting

main actors - my brother in law and my self

took us 8 whole days, 12-14 hrs per day of work
          3 kgs of filler
          3 ltrs of primer
          3 ltrs of base coat
3 + 1,5 ltrs of clear HS lack and hardener
          ??? beers

there's more paint layers (over old ones) than on a new bentley

now, after I made 500 km with new setup I can tell you the car runs great
theres no particular noise difference, but you can feel the road on the steering wheel
also, steering is like more direct or better say you can feel resistance on your hand
regarding stiffness on the bumps, not much of a difference ... you'll get more harshness with lowering springs and shocks

btw - I've jumped into my sister's in law fiat punto the other day to buy some material we needed ... city mode was on and I allmost ended up in a dich at a 30ish mph
you don't "talk" to your car in that sh** ... with this setup I made, you feel weight of the car, lateral force and tyres rolling/sliding way better

I love car beeing nice and shinny but don't really care too much ... it's built to be driven not for museum

Couple of items for you to consider.

Loose the rear boot spoiler, change to white front indicators, cover the silver metal trim round the side windows to make them black.

                    Enjoy the car, looks lovely.

macspring, those two are new items on the car since the engine swap ... gotta wear them out
and trunk lip is now part of a lid ... can't be taken off without respray
chrom stripes will be black ... couldn't do it now 'cause of fresh paint but I'm considering wraping them with foil too

                      thanx, bet I will

working on a brakes booster upgrade

dual diaphragm booster and tandem master cylinder taken out from A8 D2

original c4 vacuum booster and the one from d2 are totally different but luckily basic things are same

4 bolt patern vs. 2 bolt ... d2's booster uses 2 diagonal bolts but on the same circular diameter 102mm

d2's strut is a bit short to get 230mm lenght

so I had to extend it with nut and a piece of bolt

grinded off excess of a bolts, placed some self adhesive sealant ...

                        and voila

but the tank cap is in the way of the strut bar so some modification is needed
I've cut the tank upper part and plan to rotate it 180° to get the cap on the front end
everything is prepared, just have to get some 2K glue tomorrow

so, finally I got my hands dirty again

dropped the idea on gluing the tank and took it to shop to heat seal it properly.
fitted it in and bleeded the break lines this morning

must admit it's great upgrade, brakes bite hard somewhere at half the travel of the pedal yet it's nice and soft

there is a small problem with the cup filter for filling the tank
it has to be shortened for 4-5mm (top of it should be cut) to clear the float for switch

                              it's been a while ...
meantime she got flooded (by failed gutter while I was on vacation) so I had to replace the carpet, dry and clean the whole interior
luckily ecu is alive, got one relay burned and few fuses
replacement carpet is in much better condition than mine was, trunk coverings and carpet too, engine splash shield ...

cherry on top, finally got my tail lights from UK

yesterday I got some fancy muffler tips to make those sticks look a bit better until I manage to replace the complete exhaust
