    1985 Audi B2 4000 - 20VT conversion

    8-21-2016
    Picked up a car,
1986 Audi 40000 Commemorative Edition with the red leather. 164,335 miles
Purchased this car local to me, had to trailer it home as it didn't run.

Gutted another 4000 to acquire the parts for the swap.
Engine has been transferred over but it is stock currently. Have another engine I will build up. The engine is in place so I can finish fab work and tackle wiring.

Well I don't know how this worked out so well but as luck would have it, I found a "Parts Car" that has everything I have wanted for my white 4K. Found it just over the border from me in BC.
I am taking the engine out for now as this car has some bad rust starting from inside out and the other 4000 is much cleaner. But I have not given up on the body yet, I will find a use for it.
    The car has,
-AAN Engine (factory harness fused in somehow)
    -VEMS ECU PNP
    -RS2 Exhaust manifold
    -440CC injectors
    -Coilovers
    -Upgraded subframe bushings throughout
    -01E "wide 1st" 5 speed

        stock 4K engine out.

Time to work on the "donor"

One thing that is sweet about this 4000 is that all the mounts are done on the subframe front and rear.

I have one thing left to sort out, the donor car already had the 01E swapped in- From driving it I could tell it had an issue with the shift linkage, turns out it was hitting the tunnel and rubbing against the back of the trans. I have read through some threads about how to swap in the

Here is the trans. It is installed using no spacers for the axle and these "mystery" brackets as shown.

            Clearance shot in the car:

            brackets

Selector lever, 4A0 711 185 B (stock UrS car it looks like)

              9-7-16 working on the exhaust
Getting some work done on the exhaust today. Ran the muffler, tailpipe and over the axle piece. It was a real bitch to get that done and i did it in at least twice as many welds as a fab shop would because I don't have a bender so everything is cut and fit up from mandrel bends.
The only piece I reused was the muffler because it was a nice 3" Magnaflow straight through unit and sounded good.

Also started swapping the real coilovers in. I am eventually going to swap the whole subframe. I ordered new bushings and mounts for it. But want to get the other one cleaned up and painted first, then do new bushings, solid mounts, new ball joints and need to find a solution for rear tie rods without dropping $260.

Finished my downpipe and started working on the mid pipe. Got a flex joint in there, have about 2 feet left to go a few bends and some hangers and be done with the exhaust.

                  Landed all my battery connections

Today's project, working on the PCV system trying to clean it up a bit. I'm working on replacing a bunch of stuff with JIC or AN fitting for use with stainless lines. It's probably overkill for the breather system but the stainless lines give me flexibility.
First I took the breather spider thing and cut it down a bit.

The car as it sits today.
Next step is to try and decipher the wiring.
I have a bundle of wires in the original harness running over to the passenger side. I need to see exactly what they are and find out if they are of any use to provide power to my AAN harness.

This is the bundle of wires that runs to the passenger footwell. Going to look up some diagrams.

I also have an ADU harness but I believe that is not a plug and play in a type 85 so I will probably end up saving that for something else.

ABY harness is overpriced crap for typ85.

The ADU harness was actually really hard to find.
I have done the AAN into B3 and based what Paul said it's not much different for the B2 other than the gauges and what not so I think this car will be getting the Paul Nugent treatment. I don't want to cut up the ADU harness it can be put to better use somewhere .

That's why you should use AAN harness. Cheaper, more C4s sent to hell, everyone's happy.
