800km after the rebuild I'm impressed with the car, it starts on 1/4 turn and pulls effortlessly and it barely burns any diesel. Still keeping it under 2K rpm, but it starts to pull @1600rpm, after 200km will change the first oil. I'll will not push it very hard for the first 10K and after the second oil change will go to the dyno to see if we have the 160hp promissed on the sticker from MTM

Looking forward to hearing how it performs with the rebuilt engine.

The car made to to the other end of the country with just half of a tank, averaging 6.7L/100km (35.11 MPG). That is quite an achievement considering how bad the engine was:
Camshaft - lost 2mm of lift on all lobes due to wear
Main bearing caps - 2 of them were hand tight
The crankshaft center bore (center line) had deviations between the main bearings in the 1/10s of a mm
Piston #2 - cracked in the chamber
The waste gate of the turbo was holding on on 1 bolt - 1 missing and one sheared off

Another small hiccup, when you order alcantara from Audi qty 1 means a piece with size 50x142cm which seemed more than enough to redo the bottoms of both front seats but this is not the case. On the center piece the fabric wraps around the entire cushion and there is not enough left to do both front cushions,
Had to do a small repair on one of the front heating pads

The electrical connections are fixed, I'll leave the upholsterer to fix the foam.

I can confirm that the bottoms of the leather and cloth seats have different style of heating element
Cloth seats use 4A0963555A
Leather sport seats use 4A0963555D/4A0963557D

I have the full set of plates, but my cloth Recaros which are heated front and back do not have the parallel stitches on the center pieces like the leather ones.
This might be an issue, also a friend of mine who has repaired several heated seats told me that the pads for leather and cloth seats are different. Will confirm that when I get both seats apart.

Hi
you can leave the thermal plates and install on new seats
My Recaros are heated "now"

I have the tailgate blind as well, it is in the basement with a small mountain of part
Ordered some Cobalt blue alcantara from Audi to restore the front seats

I've modified my rear door cards for side blinds
From memory, they have the lines for where to cut out, but need some additional reinforcement when mounting the cassette
I should have mine off over the next week or so, will try to get some pictures up for your reference.
Do you have a tailgate blind? If not, I have a spare if you're interested

Have to modify the mounts for the front electric seats, have to swap the upholstery on the rear because my old seats are heated, but the leather/alcantara one is not. Have to modify the rear door cards to mount the blinds, bit in general I'm happy with the purchase

The engine will be fully rebuild and we will do a single mass flywheel conversion, but this interior purchase will postpone the work on the engine with 4-5 months.

One of my favourite threads, thanks for keeping it updated.
I was disappointed for you regarding your engine 'issue'. Hopefully there will be a silver lining.
You'll enjoy the updated interior, both sitting in it and looking at it every time you use the car in the future.
Best wishes.

The engine is still toast, but I'm spending money on options.
Going to the bank tomorrow to wire some money and waiting for delivery
