My turn to have a weird car

So the is the S2 Avant
I was just saying the other day how nice it was going and how it's really my favourite car at the mo!
Next thing, I pull away from a mate's house, I accelerates then hold back, surges a bit then seems to go ok. Then I notice it goes ok on a light throttle but bogs down as you push the accelerator down, flooring it still gives lots of boost but without as much power as there should be. Vagcom gives no codes. Boost leak test holds one bar, no audible hissing. Diverted valve passes the suck test.
Average fuel consumption has dropped to 16 or 17 MPG. It was at about 22.

    I'm scratching my head here.

I would expect a code [emoji848] but maybe not..

Tomorrow I'll change the MAF and see..

And clean the MAF connector [emoji23]

I would guess MAF too, hope just plugging it back in sorts it! Have rarely had a code to indicate MAF issues before.

This is exactly how my car acted when my MAF was dead. Ok on light throttle, when pushing boosts as it should bit doesn't move.

Can you monitor maf with vcds on the S2. I rarely see fault codes for failed maf on VAG cars. However reading the live readings shows that they are under reading.

Have to say it does sound like the MAF. Different car but all related, our B5 diesel went in for a service at stafford Audi a few years back and the tech said i think your maf is on the way out. I said how do you know,he said well these don't throw up codes but it just feels a bit flat to me. He was dead right,as i knew it was feeling a bit low on power. Ordered one when i got back home......... £47 pound later and 10mins it was feeling it's normal self.

If not you might do well to check the coolant temp sensor at the back of the head, G62, or the knock sensors. I've had similar issues with either going wrong at different points on different 5 cylinder cars.

                          Thanks all!

I think I'll change that temp sensor anyway as they're cheap and have a look at the knock sensors, make sure they're not cracked.

Same taught. If no boost leak,if bypass valve ok,if maf ok i think knock's to blame. If you feel car is different to drive and very sensitive to petrol brand or station change,go to knock sensors.
