    6 speed gearbox

    My gearbox is fooked

I am looking for an S4 box, either DSY or EDU, or alternatively a CRB (RS2).

Will collect anywhere in the UK, if anyone has one for sale please PM with details of price etc.

    Cheers

No, its still driveable but very very noisy and by the sound of it it'll not be long until it goes POP.

I've just had the same problem, my CGR box had a very noisy first gear, I replaced it with a CBL off an early S4 which is superb and a lot cheaper. I know the first gear isn't as strong as the EDU boxes but I suppose it depends on your launch tactics!

My old CGR is up for sale if you can salvage any parts?

Which of all the gearboxes has the strongest first gear then and what car is it from. Not too clued up on which the EDU/CGR etc are. I have a spare 90q 20V sport box, what's the strength of first gear like on that compared to all the other options?
Was toying with the idea of a 6speed but only the one with the strong 1st as future power upgrades will require it me thinks :mischeif:!

I looked into this and according to this site http://www.elektro.com/~audi/01E/

The CRB (RS2) and late CGR (serial # 77644 on) are the strongest with the wider 1st gear and a flexible shaft, whilst the later EDU/DSY boxes have only the wider gear, At least thats the way I read it.

Excellent info, will read it properly tomorrow and try to get my head round it all. Couldn't see any mention of the CGR box though (may have missed it) and not sure what model uses that box? Any ideas?

The CGR is the six speed S2 box, both early and late types.

                          according to this page http://www.elektro.com/~audi/01E/ind2.html

CBL's come with the narrow 1st gear (105G) and then later with the wider first gear (105J), but without the flexible shaft.

Whilst the early CGR (narrow 105E) which I have, and the later CGR (wide 105H) both had a flexible shaft.

                          F o o kin complicated......

Another nice option is a DGV from an A8 4.2. Wide 1. gear and oil pump.
                            Guess what I've just mounted
