So. My engine is in surgery and it appears it's going to need a re bore. There is a significant step in the bores that's unlikely to come out with a hone.
Has anyone got a recommendation as to which pistons I should go for? I'm not looking for any huge BHP. 300 is my target. Has anyone got any knocking about?
Thanks
Dave

If your pistons are within spec then it might be an idea to look at having the block resleeved as an alternative.
Alex (Error) has done this recently, might have even posted the sleeves used. It's still relatively expensive due to the machining costs but at least you can make progress instead of waiting for rare and therefore expensive OE o/s pistons or aftermarket alternatives.
Just an option to consider.
Ok, thanks for the advice. The block is going to the machinist shop for accurate measurements to see if its within tolerance. I might still get away with a hone yet. I've had a look at the block this morning and you can feel a lip. Fingers crossed!

Have you measured the bores? If you can feel a lip, I'd be surprised if they will hone round and still be within tolerance. Normally the bores are oval and need about 0.1mm boring out to clean up, obviously this puts you way out of tolerance. You can bore out, sleeve, re-bore and hone for about £100 per bore - way cheaper then new OEM pistons and quite a bit cheaper than aftermarket pistons. The OEM pistons are excellent for a mild application. I have posted the Westwood part number to use in my project thread. If you are bothering to strip the engine you may as well rebuild it thoroughly. If I were you I'd bin the stock rods and fit some new aftermarket h-beam rods and future proof the engine.

Thanks for the advice error. I'm not doing the engine myself. Its in the care of a local expert. I will pass on your suggestion about the re sleeve. What make of rods would you recommend?
