    1995 S2 Coupe ABY cats

    May be needed for test.
    Failed today on fast idle.
    Lambda ok so not that, failed on the CO content.
    Limit = 0.30, three fast idle tests done and got these respectively;

    1st = 0.49
    2nd = 0.63
    3rd = 0.49.

    Only thing I've recently changed is the engine management chips obtained from MRC.
    Removed today and back to standard chips.
    Retest tomorrow, but if it still fails the fast idle I'm gonna need some cats. 3B S2 will "not" fit.

    Anyone got any in case I need some?

    [edit.....My car is "not" decatted!! It has standard ABY cats]

    Jas..

        Hasn't this been discussed before folks...

        The fast-idle emissions test in the UK MOT for cars post Sep 1992 need a CAT to pass it - chips wont change that.

        Only way to pass MOT test without CATs is if they run the pre-1992 test which allows higher CO content.

        Thats as I remember it - maybe someone can find the relevant threads...

          Ah, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's the chips. It's just that those are the only things I've changed. IIRC user on here Lune (Ben) had the same problem after a rechip at MRC where it was discovered the lambda maps hadn't been included/or were somehow wrong in the chips when they were written (don't flame me, that's the explaination I remember at the time) and the car promptly failed it;'s emissions test, funnily enough at the exact same test centre. A trip back to MRC sorted it.

          I have cats on my car, the standard ones, so it's not as though I'm trying to get through it without them. After my dropped spark on one cylinder earlier in the year, even though I disconnected the effected cylinders injector, maybe the 5/6 miles I drove before doing this has bust them. Dunno.
          I'm open to all possibilities with these cars, Maybe it's a blown bulb in a dash switch, it wouldn't surprise me

            Hope you get it all sorted Jas.

                  Sorry - I misunderstood things - I somehow assumed that the CATs had been removed - before you edited the 1st post.

                          Well, seems it was the chips after all.
                          Retested and passed with 0.14 for the CO content at a fast idle of 2500rpm against an allowed maximum of 0.30.
                          I'm now decided that the car is best left standard, my fault for messing.

                          Thanks to those who offered assistance with loans of cats and especially to Bowlerwell, who I feel was going to go out of his way to help.
                          That's it for another year, not even an advisory

                            Now put those bloody chips back in, its bound to be better than standard surely?

                            Glad to hear it is all sorted and I don't have to drive the cats 300 miles to the NE!

                            Cheers,

                              Desmond's Dad's failed it's emissions with MRC chips in it.
                              I lent him my ECU and it passed.
