  • Wanted, Calliper Carriers - 323mm

Anyone able to supply calliper carriers to convert to 323mm discs on 996 monoblocks? Looking at new front discs so might as well utilise the space offered by the 17s :mischeif: . Discs are nearly the same price too (from GSF anyway).

The grooved 314s have lasted 2 years but track work has taken it out of them a bit and the grooves eat brake pads at an alarming rate! (and create huge amounts of dust!).

Anyone interested in my 314mm original carriers?

The RS2 carriers work with ~4mm spacer - maybe not the cheapest option. Seat Brembo ones also work, but they need machined on 2-axes for a fit - cheaper as long you can do the machine work yourself or for beer money

The 4mm spacer is fitted between caliper and carrier to provide adequate clearance for the disc without having to remove any metal from caliper... A truly bolt-on upgrade in this sense with the RS2 carriers.

I recently got some seat ones machined, think including the parts they cost me about £80.

But i also had to file down the pins on the calliper over the weekend to stop them scoring the disc (thats 996 monoblocks with a 30mm disc though...)

No someone's posted it, why did I not think of using a spacer, a bit cloudy today...

          323-314 = 9mm so requires a 4.5mm spacer plate to work.

Also be careful of the calliper carrier to hub bolts, there were signs of rubbing on the discs from mine.

I can get machining done quite easily, not sure about using as spacer plate after losing a calliper bolt at Combe in October so might see how much a pair of Seat carriers will be and machine them up myself... or get some ready made.

Not sure what a set of 314mm carriers are worth, got to be about £100 new? Sonic, was that £80 including machining?

The caliper to carrier bolts ARE long enough to work with spaced out RS2 carrier - I did a test fit with some washers.

With some force (U-clamp+suitable socket/padding etc) you can push the pad pins back through the caliper a good few mm and save the effort of filing them....btdt when i installed mine with 323x30mm discs

Thats what I intend to do on my 996 monos - just hope I have a silly lil clamp the right size. Gotta be more controllable than whipping out zee angle grinder to remove 1mm !

Just had a fairly interesting conversation with VAG parts...

Anyway, soundss that RS2 carriers work with 322mm discs. Is this what you are refering to Paul?

322mm are the stock RS2 size aren't they? then the bigger version is 332mm i think. 323mm will be from an S8 IIRC

Yes - 323 from A8/S8... The clearance issue is at the 996 caliper with this combination on the RS2 carriers. Guess the calipers from 968 had better clearance on the funky 322 sized RS2 disc

I've found a disc on the EBC site supposedly from an A6 Quattro that is 347mm. I'm planning on using that disc when I go bigger again (currently on 314mm)

From what i can tell/have read you either get seat carriers and mill them down or get rs2 callipers. I think the RS2 ones are about £100, the seat carriers are about £40 but obviously require milling. The £80 i paid included milling them down:
