Because if you have an airlock all you'll get is cold air in the cabin.

        This is perfectly right.
you can have it on cold if you like, you just need to bleed the coolant system well.

Dudes, I love you! I will let you know how I get on. Was thinking it might just be easier to buy a whole S2 and tune the engine up with the MTM items, then stick some RS2 bits on it. I ssem to be having not much luck with finding a rs2 engine and gearbox!

Why does it have to be an RS2 engine if it's being tuned?

Main difference between the ABY / ADU engine mechanically are the cams, cam wheel, water pump, cam belt

The late S2 gearbox although having a different code is internally the same as the RS2 according to the forum.

If you want a new gearbox your better off buying an S4 box.

                  Is it a stronger unit?

                  Is it a strait fit?

Is the s4 gearbox ratios suitable for the RS2?
tick tick tick.............u got me thinking now!

One thing I was wondering about the s4 box is afaik its got a longer last ratio unless its just the s4 engine able to power it up higher?

Basically mate put your money away, do some research speak to someone like Aelred and really decide on your next course of action before you end up spending money on a spec you wont be happy with.

Yes the S4 boxes are suppose to be stronger as they take 500 bhp all day long.

if it were me i would look out for a cheap UrS4(have seen them for less than a 1K) and strip the engine and box out of it and start from there

                            Not in this country no!

But anyway, Jamo is talking about the B5 2.7 Twin Turbo S4 box which is a stronger unit and also fits the 5 cylinder engine!
'93 S4 Avant now back on the road complete with new shiny go faster bits.

The heater controls DO affect the flow of coolant to the matrix

The flow of air over the matrix is to transfer the air temprature regulated by the matrix to the passenger cabin

The reason you need to turn the heating control to hottest setting is to allow the flow
of water to enter the heater matrix to complete the water circuit and purge any air.
The heater control is conected to a water flow control valve (located on the water inlet line to the heater matrix from back of cylinder nead ) by a mechanical cable.
