    Help Needed! Starter Motor Location?

I Went On A Jolly To West Yorkshire Today To Pick Up A Set Of Wheels To Go On The S2, When I Went To Leave The Starter Just Clicked So We Had To Bump Her. I'm Going To Clean The Terminals On The Starter And Solenoid Tomorrow But I'm Not Sure Where The Starter Motor Is , Can Anyone Advise?, Cheers And Merry Christmas ,wez.

i don't think it is the battery ,all the lights were fine etc, the alternators fine and charging the battery ok, plus i'd just driven 80 odd miles to yorkshire, on the return trip once bumped and going if the battery wasn't holding charge supplied by the alty, i'd of used what was left in the battery and packed up on the m62 on the way back i would of thought?

Starter motor is on the left hand side of the engine at the bottom, subframe has to be removed to get to it, apart from that not bad to do.

        cheers

I never removed the subframe to do any of mine, probably alot easier if you did but can be done without removing that.

          Just need some long extensions.

Imo I'd charge the battery first then try the starter before removing it as if the alternator/battery was knackered and not supplying the charge to kick it then that would be the problem.

Sound to me like your battery is dead infact i'd sway more to that than the starter.

If you bump the car it won't take as much power, because you broke down on the way home suggest battery. If in doubt get the battery charged and take to halfrauds and they will check it whilst you wait for nothing.

thanks for the input guys, i've just been out and put the battery back on fully charged and tryed it again, it just clicked again, so tomorrow i'll have a go at getting to the starter motor to clean all the terminals and leads, hopefully a corroded or loose connection is all it is.i'm glad you can get at the starter be it difficult without taking the subframe off, my heart sank when i read that ha ha, cheers wez.

then the other thing to do is get underneath and try to smack it with a hammer incase its just stuck (be carefull you might get the odd spark from the terminals )

tbh sounds like your starter might be gone now. Mine went like that when the dizzy gear died, hence why my car has a 20v 7a starter on it now.

ALWAYS DISCONNECT THE BATTERY FIRST YOU CAN DO A LOT OF DAMAGE TO YOUR HANDS AND EYES AND EVEN WORSE YOUR S2.

hi guys, sorted it this morning, jacked car up and theres just enough room to get a ringy on the nut retaining the power lead to the starter although you only get a quarter turn each go, gave the terminal + lead the emery treatment as it was covered in oxide, tighten up tried it ,it fired up straight away, made upcheers wez.

I wouldn't go smacking it with a hammer they are not as robust as they used to be.
