    WTD: LHD car

Some of you may know I'm planning a family move to Finland at some point in the future. So... as much as it genuinely hurts to think about this I can either take my RHD A4 avant 3.0 quattro sport and continue to love it but with the steering wheel on the wrong side. or... I can offer it up for a swap for a LHD vehicle. Or sell it and buy a LHD vehicle. If you have anything that might interest me for sale or swap give me a shout. I wish I could just convert my A4 to LHD but it would be an epic task.
I won't be going for an RS2, as much as i'd love it, because I want to keep something relitavely modern and hopefully slightly cheaper when it comes to spares.
I can go for something worth more than my current car if need be. It will need to pass the wife test though so that'll probably mean diesel, moderate petrol or fun sized petrol with LPG (having trouble convincing her I need the LHD B6 S4 on ebay with the wing popped in. And it's a bit expensive for a car needing work done when there's a mint RHD one in Glasgow for 10k)

    cheers

Have you checked the tax situation regards buying and/or importing cars in Finland yet ?

Yes mate. If I take a car over that i've owned for at least 6 months at home then I don't have to pay import taxes, as long as I don't sell it within 3 years. Since the car prices are so much higher there it seems sensible to take advatage and take one with me. I'll take my A4 no problem but if I can get a nice LHD instead it would mean i'll have the steering wheel on the proper side and the resale value after the 3 years will be much better

I really do like that LHD S4 though

holy mother of jesus! I need to bring an S4 over with me, no doubt about it. I'm off to play the "makes sense financially" card to the missus. And there won't be many times you can say that with an S4.

Haw Noel - your mind must work different from most folk. You thought about converting your A4 to LHD?? Hats off dude.

FWIW I'm sure your missus would approve of a left hooker 911. Plentiful on these shores ;-)

if i were you i would get that black S4 bought, fix it and take it over with you.I was looking on that finnish website and there is a 2004 saloon in black forsale at £32000,by my reckoning thats £21000+ more than what it would be to buy and fix that one over here, mental.I dare say you may have to pay taxes to import it but still well worth a dabble.

haha. aye, seems like and ideal family car with the cage and all ciaran

I really do fancy fixing that S4 but the missus isn't keen on having a car that's been in a bump in case anything else develops later. Personally I do spontaneous so i'd just do it the B6 S4s start at 29,000 euro on that site. it's mental!

Thing is, If I take a car worth less that about 45,000 euro I can get the import tax waived... if i've been using it for 6 months. which means i need to get the seller to tell the DVLA I bought it a few months ago and maybe find someone in insurance that will take a year's payment but start the policy a few months ago, so I have record of using the car for 6 months. I may even get away with having evidence that I used the car but only bought it later, so the insurance thing is probably most important

or.. I could buy a car and keep it here, registered in my name and insured, and visit finland to look for work, but I wouldn't be able to start work and officially move there until 6 months after the car purchase. Gets very complicated but seems madness not to try to take advantage of taking a car over that will treble in value.

I may very well end up taking over the A4 but whereas the nearest equivalent I could find in Finland was 19,000 euro I don't think a RHD one would be worth much at all.

So all in all i need someone to sell me a LHD S4 for 10 grand, tell the dvla he sold it in march and arrange for insurance to be back dated to march as well. anybody? anybody? erm....

Derek - porsche would be great but maybe not ideal for the 2 kids and prams.
Actually i'd take a LHD pathfinder like yours. seems like a brilliant big wagon.
