    Wanted:- Golf GTI / VR6 / Clio 172 / 306 GTI 6

I might be looking for a new car in the new year (relax, it's to replace the BM) and am interested in a few VAG options, namely:-
    • Mk.2 Golf GTI 8v
    • Mk.2 Golf GTI 16V
    • Mk.3 Golf GTI 16V
    • Mk.3 Golf VR6

If anyone is trawling a forum and finds a nice example nearby Brissol then please let me know, I've been looking around and good ones are getting harder to find. Budget is about £2k so mk.2 16Vs are getting rarer at that value so realistically it's a mk.2 8V, think a mk.3 16V is the best compromise, although the noise of a VR is something else

    Non VAG options are
    • 306 GTI6
    • 306 Rallye
    • 106 Rallye
    • Clio 172

Decided against a 205 for daily duties and as the S2 is my 'toy' I don't want another high maintenance car that I don't know how to fix

I was having some 'fun' the other day and developed a car chooser, simple excel spreadsheet comparing and scoring the attributes of various cars and picking a winner, all are objective categories, there are no subjective ones. Interstingly enough I then extended it to my circle of friends and our cars and most seemed to be rated about the same overall! Of course, I've only eyes for the S2 (for now )

I applaude you, thats proper "next car indecissions" geeky
But wouldnt it be easier to test drive them and find out if you like them?

Ah yes, that has to wait till the money is in my account though, I don't want to mess private sellers about as it's not cricket!

Heart says VR6/16v, head say 306 GTI6 and the chooser says 172, hard life isn't it

Mk4 golf v6 4motion would be a better choice to the vr6, i've had both. The 4mo is nice to drive, quicker and has a much much better power delivery than the vr6. Tbh there's not much difference in price between a good vr6 and v6 4motion.

            Don't like mk.4s so they're a no-go, 4 motion is way over budget anyway.

This is on the gti6 club and I was thinking about it, looks nice.

New clutch, timing belt and (rebuilt) rear beam.

Not sure if you need to be a member to view the link though.

                  NCTS btw.

EDIT: Forgot to say, it's also in the best colour!

I'm a member on there, looks nice but is a little further away than I want to travel and a little over budget. That said, it's a Rallye and it's just over £2k

Too far to travel! That's why your getting a car! I got my gti6 from the channel islands, living on Skye at the time! Only 24k on it though.

                        I have my reasons

Cars are definitely cheaper up north a bit and there are a lot more cars near London, will just have to wait and see how things go. All depends on the BM sale going through with a friend first but nice to get a shortlist of what I want next

Nooo not the best colour out there for the 6! Rallyes only came in a handful of colours, but for the the normal gti6's a popular colour is Blue [nile?] Black, and astor Grey also look good on the car, and i'm gna be biased and say the best to get is the moonstone blue [it's a kind of sky blue]...

Great fun to drive and parts are relatively cheap aswel...

There's not too much difference in the rallye and the gti6 for performance, so i'd prefer the normal creature comforts over a slightly ligher rallye version.

I'd say that if it was my money I'd buy a rallye as it's going to hold it's money better, would only get a gti if it dirt cheap. As for the extra comforts - remember it's french, it's just more to go wrong

Rallyes only came in Red or white as standard, black was available as an option.

My 6 was Nile Blue, but always wished I'd bought an Astor Grey one (or a rallye! )
