I have the 5 speed original (3B) gearbox in my car for the moment. i have done some tuning Recently. at the moment i have about 400 hp , I might go up to 500 max 600 in the future. Im planning that i should replace clutch and put in a more reliable gearbox.

i have been told that the early s4 5 speed gearbox would be a good and appropriate upgrade for me. but maybe there are other alternatives that are better ?

is the box ( 01A ASZ box from some of the coupe 2.3 20V 170HP) that rocco is talking about better than s4 box ?

      Grateful for any tips

      Regards
      Johan

Forget the 7A box as it has silly low gearing.

Might be worth looking into the A6 2.5 diesel gearbox ratios. Not sure if they had 5 speed or 6speed but you could use the bits and build a box to suit your needs.

This might help those wondering about hte 5 speed for drag...

I can trap almost 130mph in the quarter if I rev to 8700.

This is what happens to acceleration G's when you shift.

Stock 997.2 ( PDK) vs a stock 997.1(6 speed)GT2 with a vbox GPS data box. Horsepower does not matter much, as we are looking at shift elapsed, but it is interesting to note that the GT2 weighs in at 3,175 lbs, versus the Turbo's 3,494lbs and the gt2 sports 50hp (480hp vs 530). Orange is the 997.2 PDK car and the blue the GT2

What keeps the 997 competitive given the weight and power disadvantage?

If you can get away with one less shift, you will typically gain .4-.75 seconds from the time you press in the clutch to the time the rotating assembly recovers/spools back up.

By doing a 5 speed, a guy can easily get into the 10s if he has enough power... You just have to nail the launch, with a bogless transition to 2nd, hold on for the slide in 2nd and nail 3rd, and then just power till the rev limiter kick in. Pretty easy to get 10s that way, relatively

                Hi again !

No advice on the appropriate gearbox for me ?

Should I go for the s4 gearbox ?

Anyone know the partnumber for the early s4 box?

                Regards

I have an S4 5speed gearbox, I think it is a CET 01E box, see here:-

I'll check tomorrow and confirm. Shipping to Sweden would be around £160, not sure what the gearbox is worth? If your interested PM me an offer.
