I knew this thread would go this way. Perhaps we should stick to generic statements rather than comments that could be attributed to specific cars.
ETA, beaten to it by the OP.

Make a list of things you want on the car, ie leather carbon etc then have a budget and go looking. If you have a short time frame I would agree with others and say that maybe a b5 s4 would be better. I wanted heated leather carbon trim and it had to be an avant I also wanted it gloss black which was a mistake as they are rare. I waited over a year and a half and eventually I got a last of the line n-reg with all my wants and in a very nice pearl blue ( didn't want a blue car but changed my mind when I saw it) I picked it up within budget and it had under 120k on it.
The cars are out there but they will take time to surface.
Personally I think you need to be more specific with what your after then just sit watching eBay pistonheads etc then when you find one search on here make sure it's not a "known one doing the rounds"
To be honest, I'm quite flexible with spec. I'm more bothered about the condition of it. I definitely want a late ABY, coupe or avant. I'd like to get one with lowish miles, purely to aid the ease of resale. I'd prefer leather but would definitely take cloth in a tidy car.
Best coupe on here for sale actually maybe mine, just ask my brother (Jas) he will confirm that.
Not that I am getting into a competition with Jas, we have both spent a lot of time and effort on these cars over 7 years each.
Both have bags and bags of history receipts and money spent.
We normally keep all these away from the partners as this will cause friction.....isn't that right bro.
We are both selling for different reasons, I am getting company car and can not afford to run both (6 children you see, wife has a mini bus for them !!!).
He has 4 audi's in total and the RS4 being the latest addition.
Is just time for us both to move on from S2's and I am very sad about too.
Wish I had the money and space to keep mine.
I have had a lot of time wasted over the last 2 week's by a guy that must be looking for a low mile "just rolled of the production line" S2.
Mine has slight bubbling on the rear arch and I mean slight and that's it !.
These cars are 16 years old and metal is metal (i should know I work in the industry of making body in white car parts)
I may even get this sorted now and then the car will be closest to "mint" for an every day used car.
Couple of points from me:
1/ Mileage: does not make that difference if you spend time and money looking after them....as many wise S2 owners have pointed out.
2/ Mint: if you found an S2 owner that had kept the car in a garge for all it's life then yes you may get a completely mint car, but you will not get it for the money you are talking about on here.
Plus......it would be a shame to miss out on all those years of fun driving the car instead of sitting in a garage.
I am sure most S2 owners will agree and mine gets used daily.
Here's some of my spec:
1/ Koni suspension is fitted all around,
2/ H & R springs sit inside the Koni shocks,
3/ QR sport solid aluminum top mounts have been fitted by them,
4/ White line anti roll bar fitted at rear,
5/ Porsche 996 x 4 pot calipers fitted at the front,
6/ Ferodo race pads fitted at the front 2010 (these are really good pads, plenty of life left in them)
7/ Braided hose fitted at the front,
8/ A8 / S6 314mm disc's fitted at front (the brakes are an excellent up-grade on standard)

11/ New WGF valve (waste gate - original Audi part)
12/ 285 bhp chip (standard 235 bhp chip available if you want the car standard)
13/ Rear opening electric windows (was an extra but not fitted so I sourced a set which are very rare - if you can find some they normal go for £500)
14/ Carbon internal trim (again these are sort after, an extra was the walnut which this car had - you can have these too)
15/ New lower door sill scuff covers fitted ( when you open the door these cover the sills)
16/ Boost gauge and Audi logo aluminum housing plate fitted,
17/ New wings fitted 2010 and when I got the car it had lower full spray,
18/ Refurbished alloys (must have done them 2 or 3 times now)
19/ RS2 black powder coated door opening handles to match the carbon trim,

21/ HID headlights fitted (much improved on original spec - can easily be changed back too)
22/ Stainless steel back box fitted,
23/ 10 disc CD multi changer on parcel shelf under driver wheel (remote control too)

32/ New side repeaters,
33/ Carbon covered centre pillar panels (between front and rear side windows)
34/ Cast wishbones (replaced the steel ones as the cast ones have less flex - you can have the steel on for spare)
35/ New amplifier and aerial fitted for better reception,
36/ New coil packs fitted in 2010 (four out of 5 replaced now)
37/ New plugs fitted at same time as coil packs,

41/ Clutch replaced with Sach's original Audi one (more expensive than other after market ones)
42/ Bonnet under lining replaced with better newer one,
43/ Replaced adjusting arms for the steering and got 4 wheel alignment at same tie
I got my car at 56,000 and have photo's to back that up.
It has now got 108,000 on and have every test cert to back that up.
I consider that low milage for a 16 year old car.
I have just dropped the price to £6400 today for mine.
And you are getting a car that had thousands and thousands spent on it over the years, receipts to prove it.
Hope some one gives me a call to discuss further - 07877773006.
Well I have had my say, hope it adds to the post etc.
It will be a shame to see mine go and the kids are gutted / don't want me to sell.
GLWS Paul this really is a stunning car and if you havent sold it by the north east meet then please come along to this and bring jason along to id love to see how mine compares cause i consider mine to be absolute mint!!! and yours and jasons are real corkers!!!
