Wanted All Red Coupe Rear Lights

I gave tint spray with the spare set of lights from my other coupe, dont look too bad in my opinion.

Those white marks in the reflector are just reflections from the flash.

They look cool, what spray did you use and have you got any pics on the car. Mines a red coupe too.

Cheers for that, I'm gonna give it a go I reckon.

Wonder if you can still see the orange bulb when indicating? I remember a jobsworth MOT guy made me replace my indicator bulbs as the orange on the bulb had faded slightly. Reckoned it wasnt orange enough.

They are US spec post 1991, all the earlier US versions were red indicators but the reverse light was not tinted until the later ones

Where did you get this info? They stopped selling the CQ in the US in 1991 AFAIK.

I've shone a light through and they seem to light up fine. All I did was one light coat of paint on the lights it really doesnt need much, then just give them a good polish.

I have seen the results of that stuff on a Typ85 rear end and it is very impressive, I may bite the bullet and do that instead. My only concern is does the paint degrade over the years???

And I was told that if you use green bulbs the lights will flash orange through the red lens

Cool, so I guess this change then coincided with the european market ones losing the white reverse light

I couldn't tell you how it would last tbh, I haven't used it before but I messed up on one of the lights but managed to wipe it off with some thinners relatively easily so I'm sure that if they did fade slightly in time they could be redone without too many problems.

Ive put a blue LED torch in the indicator lense now and it still shines orange so there shouldnt be much of a problem.

As regards to MOT, In my opinion as a tester I would only fail indicators if they are very light in colour almost white or if they are very dim.

Which version of lamp did you use,

I might test on a full orange one first as they are the least liked

I used tinted red, tinted white the same as the ones on the silver coupe in your picture.

it will fade over a couple of years or jet washing, i've done it before but easy enough to touch up.
Another option is a couple of drops of red in some clear laquer and spray that over.

My only worry with using the full orange lights would be is that for them to look really red then the spray tint may have to be quite think then reducing light and also make them look painted instead of looking like a lense if you know what I mean.
