I'm looking for a pair of knock sensors for my 3B S2. Not sure if there is any difference between the items on the 3B/ABY/AAN? The sensor plugs are brown and green iirc.

The green one, 054905377A, is common to the 3B, AAN, ABY and ADU and a whole bunch of other Audi's including the V8, the S6plus and early A8s, A4s and A6s.
The brown one, 077905377A, is common to the 3B and ABY but not the AAN or ADU (?), but is on some V6s, the V8, early A8 and the S6plus.

Cheers Guys. I've found a VAG knock detector in my box of odds and sods, however it must be from a later vehicle as it has a male junior power timer connector on the sensor itself. I'll try posting on one of the 'breaking' threads.

All devices that connect to the harness have male pins. The harness connectors always have female pins.

You must use the correct sensor for the engine, as these engines use narrowband sensors and the frequency response in the sensor is specifically calibrated to the engine's knock frequency.
This one has the connector on the sensor rather than on the end of the cable.
Interesting photo but that is not a typical VAG knock sensor. 030905377A appears to be unique to a 1977 ATE Industrial Motor with no other cross-overs (as far as I can tell). Typically the sensor is potted to the cable (various lengths) that end in the 2 pin (male) where it is connected to the harness.
That said, one of the training diagrams appears to show the knock sensor that is in your photo:

No worries, I wasn't going to drop sensors in from another vehicle
With all the S2's being broken for parts I would have thought there would have been a few of these around. I'll give the stealers a call and see what they have to say about price and availability.
