    wanted 155mm rifle drilled rods

With 20 mm pin. Might finally build a stroker, so any sources for these? Cheers des.

Or are drilled rods even really needed. Anyone have builds with 20mm pins that have ran long mileage without problems.

Why 155? Would normally opt for 159 rods to retain stock rod ratio. And yes I'd say rifle drilling essential for longevity.

Well I suppose I'm being tight. If I use 155mm rods I can use stock compression height pistons. Both things are then off the shelf so are cheep. If I use pistons designed for a stock engine block height, rods and stroke with 8:1 compression, in a 95.5mm stroker with 155mm rods gives 8.35:1 compression, but the piston is not quite at deck height. If I skim the block approx 0.8mm I get 8.8:1 compression, with great squish etc. Would be a good compression ratio for lpg as a fuel. And most importantly cheep parts.

The numbers I quoted are from memory. The exact block skimming and compression would be determined with a dry build when I got the bits.

        Cheers des.

Oh and the rod ratio would still be good enough at over 1.6, so fine for what I want. Just looking for some examples of failures from not having rifle drilling. I would like it, but if its $$$ then might go without.

I have new JE pistons built for a stroker setup that will suit 159mm rods if you decide to go that way

Yep I noticed those, but I need 8.5:1 or more compression ratio as I use lpg. Cheers des.

I'm swaying towards non rifle drilled rods as I see so many builds without the rifle drilling. Ideally I would go with the drilling but $$. All arron rods didn't have it and he sold loads. Any real first hand experience of problems? And links?
                Cheers des.

Yes I'm talking to him at the moment. He doesn't offer 155mm drilled rods, but I'm very tempted at the deal he is offering on the 155 rods and wossner pistons... He does do drilled 159mm rods though...

IMHO, the OEM rods are drilled for a reason.
Maybe it would be OK without if you use a larger wrist pin, to give a larger bearing surface for the the pin?

Yep, I agree drilled is best. But with modern oils its maybe less important. Lots of builds have been done without drilled rods. Looks like the odd one goes wrong, but not all. Will let you know what I find as I'm waiting on some prices back.

I am in no doubt they work, but for me its about the longevity of the build.
Our stock engines go 200k+ without attention because they were overbuilt from the factory and I like to continue that trend.
IMHO the fact that they are totally over engineering is the main why we love these cars

Mine is built with 155 allows for better compression height on the piston
