    High standard RS2, no hurry.

My Father is seriously considering getting an RS2 at some point in the next year, he's even more fussy than me but isn't quite as hands on so it needs to be a car that has been meticulously maintained with history to prove. I wouldn't want him to be put off owning one by a succession of silly little problems like minor boost leaks, duff coil packs, dying cam position sensors etc. It needs to be right and ready to go, condition is way more important than price or mileage, he's looking to keep it long term as an investment and now is the time to buy IMO.

There a couple on Piston heads but I doubt very much any of them will be up to scratch based on their asking price. Again, if I go with him to check one out I don't want him to be put off by viewing a poor example first time.

Absolutely must be an original UK RHD car and not Cat C or D repaired. Non original paint is acceptable as long as it's been done to a very high standard, they are nearly 20 years old after all.

So what's hiding out there I could use to whet his appetite?

He has one of the best (if not the best) Volvo 1800 ES estates in the UK at the moment which must go first if anyone is interested.

        He's a patient man!

There was a low mileage RS2 on Classic car website I think, but it was £30k... Mileage was less than 35k if IRC though

LOL, he is normally is very patient indeed. However after mentioning the RS2 idea to my mother she suggested getting rid of their Honda CRV as well as the Volvo and getting a newer mega powerful estate car that she can use day to day and my dad can blast round in on weekends.

Obviously he warmed to this idea pretty quickly and they went to look at a locally advertised V8 RS4 on Tuesday just to get an idea of what their about, they liked it a lot but decided was just a touch small for the shopping and the dog etc. So they checked out an A6 allroad at the same dealer just to get an idea of the amount of space inside and decided they need that platform as it's that bit more practical for going on holiday with the dog.

So he set about trawling the net to see whats available and found an RS6 at an Audi dealer about 50 miles away the exact spec, colour etc he want's , must have old person seat's as my folks don't fit into Recaros that well anymore.

They've gone to look at it this morning and have as good as done a deal already over the phone, their getting a great price for their CRV part ex on it which is a clincher.

The Volvo will still have to go.

I'd spotted the £30K Red RS2 on carandclassic but preferred the sound of the £20K Blue one. Mega low miles is often not a good thing.

, I did try and steer him towards the RS2, but once mother had given the green light to the newer RS idea there was no stopping him!

Couldn't agree more. In time, they are going to need work doing anyhow. I would be more interested in obtaining a very mint and more importantly, entirely original one. They WILL go up heavily in value in the next 10yrs methinks. First RS car and a proper engine. I have been looking myself recently. It would be one of the things that would make me consider selling the S2.

I agree mate, RS2's are slowly going up in value now and I'm quite sure they'll continue to do so for the foreseeable future and at some point they'll rocket in price like you say.

Now I've finally gotten myself out of the financial hole I was in after a failed relationship and serious hand injury I'm kinda toying with the idea of selling my Corrado G60 and MK2 16V next year then putting the money into a cheaper RS2. I'd want to restore the car to completely original and keep it that way, I have the facility's to do pretty much everything myself which helps keep the costs down.

I'd keep my S2 as I've invested too much time, effort and money to part with it so I'd look at getting an 80 or early A4 1.9 TDi runabout.

All very hypothetical for the time being.
