Good luck with your search.I went down that road once on a S2 Avant 7 years ago but nothing but overdescribed cars being advertised. One was described as excellent cond...i counted 13 small dents.Dents not dings!Very annoying, it's as if people think it's fine wasting other peoples hard cash in petrol and time. Something will turn up for sure they always do just not when you expectAnother wasted weekend. Drove a 500 mile round trip to look at this.
Described as in superb condition!
Anyway I am still hunting for a clean N reg S2 coupe. Don't mind miles or colour. Must have straight and clean panels/bodywork.
Cash waiting, maybe upto £6000 ish for the right car.
PM me with any offers.

Looks "Superb" in the photos. In the flesh is another story. Dent in the bonnet, drivers door bent, runs in paintwork, front bumper grazed on both corners (needs respraying), oil burning off the exhaust manifold...... The list goes on. Not good!Comment

Why are you so set on a N-plater?
It sounds like you are after a bit of a unicorn car. With so few around, I would concentrate purely on condition, AND set some (a lot of) money aside to get the car perfect. I can tell you 100% you will not find a perfect car for £6000. If most folk on the forum who have their car somewhere close to how they want it have probably spent £15-20k including the car to get there. Just my 2c

N plate would be preferable but I would be happy with an older model as long as the bodywork is straight. I'm not looking for a perfect car (or a unicorn, they dont exist do they?), just an honest seller and a half decent car. I know with any older car they all have small niggles and issues that need resolving. From what I have seen so far they have been pretty awful, along with a dishonest description of condition, which pisses most people off I think! I owned an N reg S2 a couple of years ago and have not seen a cleaner one since.

The problem will always be that someones description of their car is exactly that, in their opinion it is in "great condition"

Yep, pics alas tend to make most cars look better than they really are. I always treat what sellers say with a large spoon of salt but get sucked in by pics. Only way to tell is go have a look and a drive and see for yourself. 500miles is a git though if the description was way off.
I recently did a 100mile round trip to see an A4 1.9 TDI Q. Hard enough to find one let alone a good one. It looked great in the pics but when I got there, he had surely used the time since taking the pics to drive the car through a series of thorn bushes. It was a wreck with a water leak and broken air con. He was genuinely surprised that I didn't want a test drive.Comment

Not sure on numbers.... Must have been very few N plates. Especially 1996 NAnother wasted weekend. Drove a 500 mile round trip to look at this.

Was it aug 1st 1995 - end of July 1996 for N plates ? Seems so long ago.
Good luck anyway you know it'll be worth the time and effortComment

Apparently there are only 83 s2s left on the road in total, you would think they would change hands for more money, I tried to sell mine a couple years ago for 5 k but what I was being offered was ridiculous and half just wanted a joy ride. Any one who has seen the car or pictures would tell you it's a mint car for age so will hang on for a few more years or until the first question is " have you got all receipts and history" rather than " how quick is it mate and how much to slam it " knob rots hahaComment

Just read through this thread and I concur in general. I too have went huge distances to view other peoples average/ tired cars that were given the honour of a generous advertisement. I'm talking 1000 mile round trips as live in West Scotland but even explaining that to the seller means very little (especially the motor trade). Alexs car (the 65k mile car) up the list a bit is worth a look and I expect a top car given that he worked for Aston Martin and he,s a panel beater I think. I,m a fussy sod and I know people will say "It,s a second hand car, there will be faults" . I get that but what I don,t get is someone saying their car is immaculate or genuine when it,s anything but. Paintwork I don,t mind if it,s been done correctly and I rather have that as one described as 'original' which usually means no two panels hanging the same way and in dire need of everything.
The whole "I'm not a mechanic" or "sold as seen" sometimes is a precursor to viewing a dog.
I,ve had a few attempts at buying an S2 over the years but my patience has always ran out and I,ve always been reeled in by a genuinely clean alternative. But as it,s been said, they,re getting thinner on the ground so this might be my last attempt this year.Last edited by bigkeeko; 15 March 2014, 00:56.Comment

Yep some people are deluded they seem to think that if you travel then your desperate and you will buy any way. Nothing wrong with wanting the best you can get and sticking to your guns. Don't get me wrong mines not perfect and I wouldn't describe it to be but when I compare it to other coupes it's outstanding. Even won a show and shine last year. But when I'm offered 4k for a car that would cost 6-7 to replace in same condition they were just trying to make quick money.Comment

BIGKEEKO might be worth heading to Crieff and having a look at some of the S2's turning up it will give you a good idea what to look for and what a good one looks like? If you live in the South West of Scotland its a nice little drive or pm me as am over there some weekends and I may be there next weekend pending weather?
