This looks to scary for me to get involved in
just want to unplug mine and plug replacement in can I do this with this unit

The stock one is very expensive and has to be desoldered anyway. There's a pic on here that PRJ posted on how to fit theseComment

OK time for more stupid questions
, is this to upgrade an S2 ECU? if I buy an RS2 ECU can I then avoid having to do this or is this device fitted in something else

Yes, to make an S2 ECU into an RS2 ECU you need to change the MAP sensor and a resistor on the lower circuit board. Then you need a chipset or a live map.
This way will cost you a few quid plus the chips, An RS2 ECU will cost you quite a bit more, if you can find one. You could send the ECU to PRJ, S2Central or Spink can do it for you I think.Comment

Std Bosch unit is NLA and they fetch strong money when they do come up used. You need some steady hands to install the Motorola unit, the pins are tiny

I tried and failed to fit a Motorola a unit, for attaching the wires to the sensor one needs a specialist electric soldering iron with a very fine tip and well as steady hands. I could solder the wire's to board no problem but didn't because I was worried the exhaust from my gas iron would cook something.
It's not a job to attempt unless you know what your doing and have the tools.1990 B3 2.0 80 quattro.

I'm sure you do with working in the sound industry.
I have a spare 3B ECU I'd like a 3 bar MAP fitted to to, if I supplied the bits could you do the job, obviously I'll pay you

Drop me a PM if you want.1990 B3 2.0 80 quattro.

Do not need a fine tip, need to understand how soldering works.
The iron I use is about 4x the size of a single pin..
Kinda like how you can drag solder SMD with a fairly big tip, just need to use the right technique.
P.S.
I've also done this hung over with hands shaky as hell and it came out alright too, but that's probably down to doing it a million times. Definitely helps to have a steady hand.
One of the very important bits is to have the right wire, needs to be thin enough and very flexible. Perhaps I'll make a video next time I solder one of these.Last edited by prj; 15 February 2015, 02:27.Comment
