If you are feeling brave its not difficult to replace the front seal without taking the pump fully apart just need to pull off the triangular pully part off the shaft (did mine with a couple of bolts about 50mm long (think they are M6 or may be M8) screwed thru the holes against the pump face and it came off easliy. Then all you need to do is prise out the existing seal and clean up the shaft, fit a new seal using a suitable sized socket as a driver but they do press in about halfway by hand (16 x28 x 7 double lip seal) like this
Shop bearings, belts, seals, lubricants and power transmission components from Bearing King, a UK supplier with 35+ years of industry experience.
and then press on the triangular bit (might need a press to do this) job done
Thats it unless its overheated and taken out the bearing which mine did and in that case you need to dismantle the pump to sort it out (mine was slightly seized) clean it up and pop in a new seal on reassembly.
Hi thanks for the reply I got the motor running for the first time in about 14 months but got all excited and forgot the steering fluid hence the pump got ****** hot put oil in this morning and it run out the front seal hope the pump is ok and its just a seal...
I`ll try and fix the seal first then maybe purchase that pump if its done the bearings in
Check your eyesight that is a tandem pump its got 3 hose connections !, V6's and 7A engined coupe/90's and 80's all use the same pump as the S2, just be careful as some early ones (pre 90) have a different thread on the brake bomb outlet as I found out when I changed the pump on my 91 Audi 90 20v quattro.
Yup. Won't be high volume mind you. Front stage of the pump is the high pressure for the brake assist.
Rear is the vane pump supply for the PAS. Port on the side is fluid inlet. HTH.

All 5 (4 on cars and 1 spare - not for sale) of my pumps have a varying degree of endfloat, between about 1 and 3 mm, all still work fine no leaks although 1 is a bit noisy as in it knocks from the high pressure valves.
