Thanks again for the info Adam, sounds like a great turbo. Looks like I've managed to find a complete unit via an eBay seller so am probably going down that route. I like to do as much as possible myself to help keep cost's down and learn how stuff goes together, I'll probably build the core up myself before getting it ballanced
It's good to know somewhere does supply new housings though.

Albert: the housing entry/exit size is identical between my. 6 and. 82 housing. It's only the a/r ratio thats different. (Google will explain a/r better than I could).

You done well to find an old #8. I looked for a few months before giving up and buying new. Good call on building yourself. I rebuilt an old T04e with a kit off ebay including a stepped race bearing and had turbo technics balance it for under 100 quid.

Yeah I got lucky and picked up a complete Porcshe 944 S K26#8 in perfect working order other than snapped studs on the hot-side which meant I got it cheap.
I've had to drill them out, bit of a fiddle but I managed to do it carefully in the vice (copper jaws) with a 18V Makita battery drill and a lot of patience. It's in really good condition with only one extremely minor stress crack on the inside of the web between the scrolls which I reckon had been there for 20+ years and isn't a problem at all. In fact I'd rather use an old one that's had plenty of heat cycles as it should be more stable, it's done 114K miles hence being in such good condition.
Great to know Turbo Technics will balance it for such a reasonable price, again thanks for the info.
