  • Who's runing VEMS????

    Who is running the 5cyl with the VEMS electronic management?? I was thinking to get the MegaSquirt ECU but a few people told me is not a good choice. So I read about the VEMS and seems to be nice and reliable with a little hifgher price than the MS... but I'd like to know if somebody is already using it. Thanks mates!

        best is to read my post on my car with vems.

        i will add anything to that as i got.

        the basics are

        easy install
        medium setup
        easy tuning.
        great running.

              craig - hope you dont mind but i thought id reply to your pm here so others can read. i get asked lots of q's about vems and try to answer as best as possible.

              you need to ensure you have the same firmware as megatune. best to download a package with it all in. you need to also ensure you have the correct sort of map loaded for the intended config ie hi boost 12x12.

              once you have the correct loaded it should all talk. i use 1.1.23RC have done since the start. it works great. i dont use the idel valve or the N75 though. i run without idle control and with an EBC. hope that helps.

              when you load firware on it is supposed to backup the config and reapply but it didn't for me. i had to reload my map after.

              are you using USB? there are issues that some serial to usb converters dont work. i use straight serial and never an issue. the only problem ive had is when the plug pulled out during a firmware update adn i have to do a force reset using a paperclip on the 9 pin.

              ensure you get the download from VEMS. if you have tuned with megasquirt you will know this but if not.....in megatune you need to change the config files to deturmine the type of megasquirt you require and other things like temp readings and map sensor. in the vems compile its set already. get it from vems.hu

                Not a problem mate.

                12 x 12 high boost i am on.
                I use 1.1.23RC
                I am using USB so might have to get a serial cable.
                Just need some communication now.

                I will post my findings on this post.

                  its simple to tune really too.

                  1. set req fuel
                  2. set crank pw
                  3. set afterstart
                  4. generate VE
                  5. Generate spark.
                  6. write lambda

                  drive.

                  make tweaks to warmup enrichment and also accel. twae VE and timing.

                  aim for 14.5-15.5:1 for cruise. i like lean off boost to give clean burn.
                  aim for 11-12:1 for boost.

                  add timing to cool EGT, remove to smoothen on the limit.

                  a WB02 and EGT gauge is well worth it.

                  a set of det cans is also useful.

                  use megamanual to seek setting advice. megasquirt may not be the best ECU but it has the best manual with the best support.

                    I run VEMS on my S6 Avant, its a great system as others have mentioned. I ship all of my ECUs with firmware 1.1.27.
