  • Help needed for wiring Zeitronix Zt-2

    Hi

I have brought this wide band controller & logger
    Zeitronic Zt-2
    http://www.zeitronix.com/Products/zt2/zt2.htm
I need to pick up a Rpm signal where would the best place for this, I have 1 signal wire for control box

Also i need to find a signal for the throttle position sensor I have 1 signal wire from control box. I can see 5 pins on throttle position sensor Any idea if i can take a signal from here

My car is a Rs 2

    Thanks Wayne

I'll get back to you on this one... I need to buy a Zeitronix box too - I like the specs and have seen one in the flesh before...

        Hi Paul

Thanks for your reply, any help would be appreciated

One thing i also like about the ZT-2 is the audio-visual warning & trigger box which give a second safety devise able to activate the limp home mode.

I used the tacho signal from the instrument cluster. I spliced into pin 22 (twenty-two) of the yellow 26-pin connector on the cluster and it works like a charm.

You could also splice into the TPS, I believe Faheemo is doing this.

I'm working on a small temperature board that uses the air intake sensor or similar and feeds a 0-5V signal to the Zeitronix system.

If any of you guys considering buying the Zt-2 I got a gauge for sale that will shows AFR and Lambda.

I like the idea of intake air temperature on the user 0-5 input

thanks for the advice on rpm

                Jade,

Looking at ABY schematics here... Jonas' note of pin 22 on the yellow cluster connector for RPM is perfect - that is a green/blue wire. If you wish to avoid wiring behind the cluster - then look for pin 7 on a black 10-pin plug in the aux relay carrier (above drivers pedals) - this is a convenient via to the ECU pin 40 where it is presented on a lilac/purple wire.

The auxiliary 0-5 input could indeed be used with a suitable temp sensor - or indeed the throttle pot.

You cannot use the existing IAT sensor due to the way the ECU uses it - you would need a separate sensor.

For the throttle pot - you should see 0-5V at its pin 3 (three) - which is also curiously a green/blue wire - this tracks to the ECU at its pin 53 if you'd prefer to tap in there.

Another thing worth logging is the MAF output voltage on its pin 3 (three) - a white/black wire that routes to the ECU on pin 7 (seven).

NOTE - I am quoting pin numbers and schematics from ABY - that should match your RS2, but MAY not match 3B application for others (I'll check later).

If you find any wire colours then that might be OK - I'd need to check with your model year RS2 to be sure (well as sure as you can be with ~20yr old schematics)

The ZT-2 can log TPS, so no need to use the AUX input for this

D'oh yeah - sorry - you are right... I'd log MAF voltage personally if only channel is available...

For air temp monitoring it would be interesting to fit an IAT sensor before and after the intercooler - then at any time you could measure its actual efficiency in the real world.

Thinking out loud here - run all four of those signals (TPS, MAF, IAT-1 & IAT-2) into a simple little jumper board where you can then select which two get monitored by the Zeitronix... Its 'TPS' input can be considered a 2nd channel - it doesn't need to be hardwired to TPS.

That way you have a means for verifying your MAF and TPS are behaving... and you can measure various intercooler efficiencies - at the flick of a switch (or two) !

@Jonas - I'll PM you about the guage you have - I might be interested in that... Been in desperate need of realtime AFR data this week.
