  • 034 USB programmable ECU mod for the 7a, 3b, adu, aan, PT/ABH, etc

    Browsing Motorgeek and came across this thread

    http://www.motorgeek.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=32928

    We will have something for the older cars soon to put the tuning ability into your hands. Stay tuned I'll have some stuff on the test bench here _very_ soon.

    We'll be releasing a self-tuning USB programmable ECU mod for the 7a, 3b, adu, aan, PT/ABH, etc.
    Of course, the intent of this new setup is to be able to customize the tune for your application. It is not an SEM replacement if/when the stock ECU design has become the limit.
    Well, it really depends what you are looking to get out of the AAN/ADU. Fueling and spark table will be accessible and tunable. We may do a programmable boost chip as well, for those that still want the ECU to do everything. Otherwise we have a MBC version of the boost chip to allow external controllers and still keep everything in the ECU happy.
    Should be interesting, hope price is reasonable.

          Wow ... Neat idea involving a very small emulator with USB I guess... Be interesting to see how they expose a number of maps for tweaking as there lots of variants of each ECU software and the maps move around because of that.

            i agree with paul here. There are lots of different maps in the motronic that may require tweaking. Playing around with spark and fuel is not the only thing you need to do.
            Also how will they overcome the fact that the info changed in an epprom have to be burned into them and that procedure involves erasing the old info with UV light, and loading up the new info..??

                  seen similar in the subaru world. usally has a limit to what you can do with it.

                  i think sometimes we have to ask ourselves is it really worth it also.

                  the way i see iot is id only go standalone over 400hp on one of these cars. for me i cant set targets though as power is like a really good drug.

                    I had a similar ECU in my Subaru. ECUTek.

                    lots of options though

                      AAN/ABY/ADU fuel/ignition user programmable chip is now available for $695, 3b and boost chip apparently still in the works. There is an instruction manual with screen shots of the software as well.

                      http://www.034motorsport.com/034efi-...y-p-22352.html

                      We provide access to everything you should need to get a solid tune done, however... if you really know what you're doing and want access to other data not included in our interface I can easily add them for you. Just tell me exactly what you want from the stock bin file (memory locations, axis data, etc), and we can add it. If you don't know this kind of info chances are good we wont be adding the maps you think you need

                      The 'normal' aan package will have:
                      -16x16 3d Timing table
                      -9x9 3d idle timing table
                      -IAT based timing trim
                      -Load limiters
                      -Rev limiter
                      -Idle electrovalve setpoints
                      -Warm up enrichment (Coolant based fuel trim)
                      -Closed loop O2 load based activation control
                      -16x16 Fuel table
                      -Injector constant to scale for different sized injectors
                      -IAT based fuel trim

                      The boost chip stuff is all done, it's just a small hardware board I need to print up next week to accept the RIP Chip interface.
                      This will get you
                      -Overboost timing
                      -Overboost increase
                      -Boost pressure setpoint
                      -WGFV PID base duty cycle maps

                      We will be getting most all of our base maps for our current tunes up on our website so you'll get solid starting maps for most of the common setups.

                      Big MAF stuff will be coming along shortly now, as we were waiting to release these first so people can dial in their big HP tunes.

                        I think the most essential problems are:

                        ***The vehicle must be turned off to read/write to the RIP Chip, this is for safety, and technical reasons, the file cannot be modified, or read while the engine is running, and/or the ignition is ‘on’.
                        So it does not support live mapping.
                        Also, there is no datalogging.

                        These are a deal breaker for me, impossible to properly tune anything without these two features.

                        Looking at the screenshots of their software, it's also missing at least these essentials:
                        * The other two warmup enrichment maps
                        * Cold start, crank fuel map
                        * Injector latency compensation
                        * Idle RPM
                        * Minimum injector pulsewidth (max. that can be run without is 630cc at 3.8 bar)
                        * Knock enrichment, knock sensor tuning etc
                        * IAT timing compensation and it's threshold configuration
                        * Coil dwell
                        * Vmax? But possibly removed in their base tunes
                        * Consumption signal

                        I tried their software and it instantly maxed out my cpu.

                        In the future, I think the absence of the maps I listed could probably be addressed, but the combination of the lack of real time data logging from the ECU and the fact that changes to the maps can't be done in real time really kills it for me.
                        I hope this is changed, otherwise I don't see any point in buying this. Dual ostrich and tunerpro setup would be better.

                              It's actually coded in Java and by hacking it a bit I was even able to make it start on my Mac.

                              But yeah, for 700 bucks + tax (which will get it close to 900) VEMS is much better value for money, even if you have to pay a little bit more.

                              Really, what kills it the most for me is the ability to tune on the fly.
                              Are you really going to shut off the engine every time after a run? Not good for the components at all...
                              I wonder if the chips they are using actually support real time changes? Or if it's just some basic flash memory, that is erased and rewritten.
