I have recently fitted GT3 calipers (also know as Carrera or Boxster S) with RS2 carriers and A8 314 x 30 rotors, they are a direct fit with no mods required, to my 16" AVUS 6 spokes (S2 Coupe ABY). You need to get the RS2 solid brake lines also.
GT3 calipers are not the same as 996 standard or boxster 's' calipers.
They are bigger and have a different mounting hole spacing.
The setup you have - Yes they fit and they don't rub / catch on each other but any foreign bodies entering into that gap will gouge your caliper / wheel. There are a few BTDT on this forum.
Lets not start this one again.
Whats the best option for me to use on s2 aby then, I have rs2 smaller calipers (which come of my rs2) , a8 322mm discs and rs2 carriers from Robin.
Do I wait for big reds or get a8 discs machined down to whatever size and use my calipers?
GT3 4-pots are the same as 996TT's, these are ALOT bigger than the 996C/Boxster S. The REAR calipers on the GT3 are the same as the FRONT calipers on Boxster S! Are you sure you've bought GT3 calipers? Beacuse they are bigger. They need a 60mm sweep height disc.
How do you fit a caliper intended for a 34mm thick disc onto a 30mm disc? Man, I didn't think that would work. Too bad I turned down a pair of GT3's and went with SEAT Brembos. Well, my "kit" was half price and I do not think it will be half performance!
Fourrings - yeah, I replied, read through your post like ten times and realized I sort of missed the "hat" part. And as y'all know, you can't erase posts so I had to think of something else to say. Sorry, I honestly didn't think anyone had replied already. Wonder what a massive 314 x 30mm disc would perform??
Well as far as these porsche 996 caliper name designations go, I guess I'm still in the dark ! I went to one audi mechanic enquiring about braided brake lines and he said "ahh, you've got boxster calipers", then I found a highly regarded race brake specialist who manufacture complete performance brake systems-custom rotors/hats/brackets, you name it, they fitted my calipers with the Ferodo DS 2500's ( they are heaps better than the Textars !), and they told me I had GT3 calipers !
As far as clearance goes it's about 5-8mm.

Part numbers would make sure what you have for certain.
