Faulty "BOMB" Hydraulic pressure accumulator?? Advice please guys!!

ok. I;m running through a list of jobs to put the 3b I bought into to good running order...
It has a few problems relating to the brakes though and Im sure after searching on here and elsewhere its the BOMB hydraulic pressure accumulator ....

    Points//
-pedal feels like it lacks assistance a lot of the time while driving
    - Ive done the BOMB test and it failed dismally!!! The pedal went "hard" after about 3 presses when the engine had been turned off
    - Brakes feel weak anyway but I've heard this is inherent with stock 3b brakes anyway!!

ok. I read the article on 20v.org and Im going to do the recommended test for the bomb but I'm assuming it's knackered ssing as the article says after 7 years they are normally dead anyway

Before I try and source a sensibly priced bomb (Im not paying £250 dealer price!) has nayone done this job before and how far out is that guide on 20v.org seeing as its not an S2 and also it's a LHD car meaning possible different location etc

Ive been told the bomb is in an awkard place to get to and that its a bitch of a job? but I see a poster who said he did his in half an hour??

Can anyone enlighten me on a proper time for the job? and is it easy or a pain the RS?

// Also, my ABS light keeps coming on at random times....I havent been able to test the ABS yet (saturday) but is there any common things I should look for to try and ID the problem?? ie// faulty ABS sensoe or whatever?

    Thanks in advance guys

The bomb isn't hard to get to.
Just stick your head under your engine and look towards your nearside wheel.

There is a guy on Audifans who rebuilds the bombs. Does good job I understand and does it for about 100 USD. I don't remember his email, but you can join Scars on audifans mailing list, and ask who it is.

        Greg W.
They can have my car when they pry my cold dead fingers from the steering wheel.

I should think you'll be fine following the guide on 20v.org. Just make sure you depressurise the bomb before you attempt to remove it. Pump that pedal!

Greg, is the guy you're talking about in the US? I'm not sure if there are any issues with shipping a 'bomb'.

            Hi,
Guy is in the States. I hadn't thought about the shipping aspect. Maybe just don't write on the package "car bomb". Maybe just, brake pressure accumulater.

Actually the guy is on the Quattro list on Audifans.

His name is, Dave Kase, his email should be "davekase@pdqlocks.com"

Look under pressure accumulator - I think part no 14176 (best make sure though)

May be cheaper than other options.

                  worth a try.

                      Great//
                      Phoned the garage above.

                      Now called :
                      Pleiades

                      Greenend house
                      Scotley Way
                      Sawtry
                      Cambridgeshire
                      PE28 5XF

(thats where you ship the bomb to anyhow!)

Same price (about £75) + postage

They said the bomb can normally be repaired but sometimes they are shot.....the guy said if they are left till they are totally depressurised then a certain part inside (pistonthingy?) punctures a seal rendering them scrappers.
The motto he said was don't wait until the unit totally fails and dont keep driving with it or it may be scrap.

I'm posting mine there monday anyway so will find out Tuesday ish.

Just to check....I read another post where a poster said he kept pressing the brake pedal till it went totally soft as a test for the bomb?? and it took 48 presses or something??
I thought it was how long it took to go "hard"

                      Can someone clarify please.

                      TIA
