If you buy a used hub carrier, make sure on the year. Early coupes and S2 had 12mm strut bolts holding the hub carriers. 93+ used 14mm strut to hub carrier bolts.

Also, I would replace the bearing in a used hub. Insurance and safety, as you won't know the history on the car it came off of. It is a lot easier to replace the bearing while the hub carrier is off the car.

You can do the axle bolt by yourself. Put the wheel back on the car, lower to the ground, break loose the axle bolt using monster (3/4inch) breaker bar with pipe extension, and jack car back and remove wheel and axle bolt.

They can have my car when they pry my cold dead fingers from the steering wheel.

Great. Thansk for this info Greg.......
I think I will do the bearing for definite as your right...I wont know its history
and I will take your word that the bearing is easy to replace while hub is off the car

And the axle bolt...Cheers. i will do that if I cant get a second pair of hands on the job!!! (likely)

Does anyone know the correct torque specs for the axle bolts etc?

Just got to find a hub now......
Allaudi dont have one and say that the 3B is differnt to the coupe??
or do you think they meant what you said re bolt size / year of car greg?

            Thanks//

                ****.just lost a massive post

Thanks for that info Jamo...its excellent

Can you guys take a look at these pics I took tonight of my caliper carrier clearance problem and confirm what I am nearly sure of. The mounts on the hub somehow are bent (minor accident possibly)

Exact same feeler gauge width used in all pics and same camera angle. All are realistic compared to real life view.

Bad side (catching carrier) upper mount clearance to disk - approx 1.5mm

Bad side (catching carrier) lower mount clearance to disk -approx 2.5mm

Good SIde (totally 100% fine) upper mount clearance to disk

Good SIde (totally 100% fine) lowermount clearance to disk

                for andyp!

The only bit of visible damage on the bad side. (unkown cause)

So whats the verdict guys?? do you reckon a new hub will cure this? or could a waste a load of £££ and still have this problem after fitting it?
If so what the hell could be the cause as I cant think of anything

                All useful help much appreciated

I put the S2 hubs on my coupe. The reason I mentioned the difference in the bolts on the hub carriers, is the hubs I got for my coupe were off a ABY and I have an early coupe 20V. The ABY hub carriers took the 14mm bolts and my coupe hub carriers were 12mm. The center line for the hub carriers holes was the same, so I used an expandable reamer and reamed out the holes in my struts. A year and a half and they havent't fallen off the car.
That said, I don't know why Allaude would tell you they are different. Mine worked.

edited: I just checked the Euro Etka. Shows the same real hub carrier up through 8B-M-04-000 with the part number#893-505-435B which uses the 12mm bolt to the strut.

For 8B-N-00-001 and later, the part number is #895-505-435C which is the hub carrier using the 14mm bolt to strut.

ETKA say this is for KV, MN, NG, 7A, AAH, ABC, & ABY.

                              HUb removal

                              Ok....

so after more measuring and messing about I think the lugs are fine and the hub is not on fully...or is loose though there is no play at all in it it is seated too far out

Whats the best way to remove it please?

Please ignore the "HERE" text and arrows pointing to the wrong part in the picture.
its the actual hub Im focusing on now.

ok. so the main hub face that the wheel bolts too is too far out from the lugs.. (1.8mm to be exact)

I have never had this assembly apart?

Could it be loose and I just need to get some torque on that big end bolt to tighten it the 1.8mm it needs to travel to be correct?

I know its a pain to do hub replacement / wheel bearing but does the bolt tighten tghe hub into its position or??

Is it worht taking the assembly off the car?? if so best method please...remember I am not now replacing the bearing carrier sa so i only need to get the hub off to have a look. or if it is possible that itneeds torqueing on further not even removing it is the best option

                              THANKS

                                Mmmm!
Guess there is nothing to lose by trying to tighten it. Get the correct figure. Its usually around 200 lbs/ft or so. From the state of it it doesen't look like someone has been there before. Obviously if there were signs of something being replaced that would be encouraging.
I have had something similiar before when the cv had been pulled from the driveshaft after a full droop episode! The securing circlip had been dislodged so the cv had walked along the driveshaft a tad.
Other than that there is possibility of cv/bearing problem. You will not be able to discern the state of the bearing until the cv is removed. The hub should have no slop whatsoever.
