Some advice re 996 monos and ds2500

....make sure you clean and lube them every 6 months.

I spent last weekend replacing the rear discs and pads and doing the usual unsieze of the carrier pins as they seem to get worse with time and eventually stop working properly.

Having completed that job i thought i would just check everything was free up front on the monoblocks......what a state Whilst they obviously were slowing the car down they werent as good as i remembered and no suprise, the ds2500 dust quite a bit and the pads basically had stopped moving well enough to contact the discs and there was kak everywhere, all over the pad retaining pin (to the point where it wouldn't come out and all over the pegs which the pads rest against)

After a proper clean up and plenty of slip they are back to their former glory, jeez do they haul up now

I'll definately be doing this every 6 months or so from now on, couldnt believe how bad they had got.

I'd have taken some pics but the cam is out of action at the moment...

Copper slip doesn't have the temperature range required, it just melts and mixes with the brake dust that's why you end up with the gunk you have seen.
You shouldn't use any slip on the pins and only use a tiny amount of VERY high temp anti squeal paste on the back of the pads.

Cheers Corey.....The pins originally had nothing on them but it looks like the pads were not moving over them much if at all.

Any ideas on a name for that paste and I'll go dig it out.

Having said that, they do seem to be working now which is a distinct plus

We use a product from Wurth, when I get into the workshop this morning I'll dig out the name of it
