It is sensible to do the brakes first, id did. but i guess if you do go for the chip first you will have an excuse for the wife, "I really need porsche brakes cos these are rubbish and i nearly didn't stop again today dear!"
Cost wise i concur with general concensus, the standard 996 upgrade with A8 disks is no more expensive in real terms than the standard and cos they work, you won't need to abuse them so much. That follows they will last longer and so cheaper, worth a go!
