@Ben, is this because of your stellar handling + stopping mods or is there a plan for more power? I can't afford anything more on the car this year so be nice!

@Jamo, wait i will, but by 2009 I'll probably be on the next evolution of my engine

Incidentally the midlands seems a very strong hold for the Avants - soon we'll have a very good stronghold here in the south, but i feel a very strong rift in the force around the banbury area And then... Somerset will be our final frontier

      @Ross,

Mainly my handling and stopping power, although we may have a couple of tweaks to the engine up our sleeves. Only time (and the US postal service ) will tell.

        Hi Ben

Any chance of a shopping list for this conversion with part numbers and likely cost.

Will it fit under standard 16" Avus wheels?

        Cheers

Question is why would you want this under 16" alloys on the rear?

As it would seriously effect brake balance, better of uprgade the fronts 1st as this does the majority of braking.

I told you this would be easy on the S2 Avant (and Sedan) - tis the '8E0' conversion I did on my Coupe earlier this year. I'll have to dig out a linky for it...

Differences to Bens work and mine as follows - to best of knowledge -

On the Avant/Sedan with its handbrake layout you can use the 8E0 calipers and therefore retain the disc at 300mm. On the Coupe, the handbrake is problematic with the 8E0 caliper so you need to do things a bit differently - ie use RR/S6 rear calipers, reduce disk diameter to 280mm and use A8/S8 carriers for the 280mm disc.

I never bothered with the backplates / splash shields - hate them really so can't comment on that.

On the Avant/Sedan its all easier cos it all bolts on - the only complexity is handbrake as Ben discussed but it is not a showstopper like the Coupe.

Oh I also see that Ben used the later black coloured calipers - I had the silver ones - then sold to the mighty Ross for his beast.

I still need to get my 996 monos on the front to balance out this combo - all of which could just squeeze into 16" Avus if you wanted - I still have them for winter rubber.

So your using calipers and discs from a b7? Are you using a bracket, hard to believe that it just bolts on.

It DOES just bolt on - ridiculous I know but heres the proof on my Coupe - you'd almost think the man at Ingolstadat that designed the 8E0 rear brakes had some S2 owning friends !!!

As stated - handbrake is the only niggle on the Coupe cos of location but its easy resolved on the Avant & Sedan.

The B7 rear brake assemblies are a straight swap for the B4 parts. Bolt spacing and disc offsets are identical.

I'll HAVE to do a proper write-up on this subject - the info is scattered across various threads. Some are sticky which helps but it needs to be on a static page somewhere !

My Avants suspension (standard springs, Bilstein front inserts, RS2 rears and RS2 F&R ARBs) is very stiff. Although I do occasionally think of fitting some 18s I do worry that the rubber band tyres would make the ride unacceptable, hence the question about keeping the standard alloys. I also like the stealth look of an outwardly standard looking car.

Have already upgraded the front brakes. I've been running 996 calipers with A8 314mm discs on Seat Cupra mounts for the last two years. Although they work well I get a lot of dive with heavy braking so it would be nice to give the back some better brakes to even things out.

                        Cheers

                          Ben,

Very nice job done on the rear upgrade.
Ever since I sold the old rs2 hubs ive been looking for an upgrade for the s2, and now the light have shined down to this thread

But, just a few and quick Q's:

                          1. Have I understood correctly that the caliper, bracket, bolts and cables do fit straight on from a B7 s4 (2005-2007)?
                          2. Can i ask of the price for it all(please pm me if its hush hush)?
                          3. This is a good upgrade to match a 996mono front upgrade (thinking of the bias)?
                          4. And if someone have the time and pleasure, parts nr is welcome to this list of upgrade.

thanks so much for making theese brake p0rn threads

Yep, that would be grate for guys like me who are not familiar with all parts number and names !

What calipers is used in this upgrade, the standard one from the S2 coupe or another ?

If it s that an easy upgrade it s the one all S2 owners are waiting for a long time !!

Sigh - the info is all out there guys.

Coupe uses RR/UrS4/S6 rear calipers - I posted the part number earlier today.

Avant uses the '8E0' rear calipers - more correctly the 'B7' in parts lingo - I also posted those part numbers in the past. I dry fitted some silver ones - Ben used black ones.
