Mountng anti squeel pads, urgnet help needed

    Hi all,

    need some info urgently.
I have the RS2 brakes mounted, with original Textar pads and "original" anti-squeel pads. The pads is the second set after using Ferodo's for 1000km

However the padchange didn't help, the squeeling came back 600km after mounting.
I meanwhile found the threat in which the Plastilube is mentioned and also an official Audi instruction that recommends using the Plastilube in case of brake squeel.
I am now waiting for the Plastilube to arrive for the next experiment.

Now I was wondering (found mixed info) do the anti squeelpads need to be "glued"to the brakepads or not??.
Now they are not glued (at least no glue residue on the Ferodo's).

Are there differnet types of anti squeel pads available? Any experiences

    Thanks
    Carlo

    Carlo,

I always put some stuff on both sides of the anti-squeel pads. Hope this helps.

I only use copper paste on 6 places.

One on each brake piston area
On the point where the the pad rest against the pin which stop it from turning the way Your brake disc is going
And on the two places where the backplate is in contact with the pads.

      No squeek at all!

I can have pictures taken tomorrow if You want to see!

        Love to see pictures.
Just, I don't have the pin on top but kind of a spring.

        Thanks

Oh come on. You all should learn some balkan way to do it. All that has to be done is to take away couple of milimeters of all edges of new brake pad. That will put away all the anoying souds.

If you are using the full OEM RS2 brakes new pads are 2mm too thick unless from audi. Take that off the disc contact side or wait until worn. Not usually a cause of squeal on applying brakes but causes a 'drone' 'noise' while driving.
IMHO you need to glue the pads if possible to ensure full retraction from disc to avoid 'drone' while driving.
If its simply squeal on applying brakes then lots of 'copslip' or the like.

Really depends on what the problem is ? drag/noise driving or ? squeal on applying brakes

As I stated before, it sounds like squeeling/screetching on driving, it's gone when brakes are applied (even lightly) and also disappears on change. (steering, accelerating, a bump,....)
Is this "droning"you mentioned a loud screetching sound that's even louder then radio at normal volume?

Jop just make ferodo angles roud and that is it. It will prevent the material to harden during the runing-in the new pads. New pads normaly vork only on the edges for some time and you burn the corners and they become hard and that makes the anoying sound. If you take away the cornes they cannot burn. My pads never made a sound and on coupe and I was using some spanish crap (ICER). That prevents the bad performance and burning pads and overheating discs, when using new pads and old discs.

when I asked a porsche dealer in Norway, the recommended a "dry fit", using pads and not coppergrease. If you have to use grease, they highly recommended using Lithium-grease.

Its ok that they claim that a "dry fit" is better or use of another product, but when people are stating use of another "practice" or other material it has to be followed up with a sentence that starts with: "The reason I say this is because..........."

I forgot to say that I also grind of the edges of the pads like "lini" says!

The squeel is normally the result of two material contacting each other on a very small surface that again due to the rotation of the disc converting the frequency to a sound. Its not a "doctor grade" problem.
The best thing to do is to take a very close look at Your pads and see where it has "marks" where it touches the caliper or "unormal" wear marks to the disc!

                        Good luck!
