sorry i didn't get back to you earlier, i was having a top mount related nightmare lol.
offer still stands if you need it mate
pretty straight forward one to swap the rear caliper - to add to Carls idea, wear gloves
seriously though, its a 10 minute job - just make sure the guide pins are free and nicely greased when reassembling to prevent future issues like i had with sticky pins
So now - Anybody got any tips for changing the caliper over early in the morning? And I mean caliper related. not hints to wear a warm jumper
cheers
Right, pay attention as it's late and i have just returned home from pub after we thrashed the scots in the rugby -so i've had a few .......and from memory............
Release handbrake & slacken adjusters, remove handbrake cable locking clip from caliper remove cable- check it runs freely and is not sticking as this could be your prob......
clamp brake line- if you haven't got a tool you can use a set of mole grips with sockets on the jaws..crack the flexi nut caliper end.
13mm & 15mm spanners to remove slider bolts(15mm to stop the inner from turning)
Prise caliper off/compress piston
unscrew caliper from flexi.
Have a cuppa/beer/piss etc
Check "new" caliper is clean, piston runs smooth & free- handbrake mechanism runs smmooth and RETURNS- if it doesn't go back to the scrappy with a big stick......
Mr Haynes he say.....fitting is the reverse of removal
Don't forget you will need to make sure the flexi isn't kinked or twisted and adjust the piston out with about 1mm cleance between it and the pad (saves huge amounts of time when bleeding)
Take off flexi clamp(how do you think i got my first set of clamps!!)
fit h/brake cables and ONLY adjust once system is bled
prob take 1hr a side first time out
enjoy ............................off to pass out now
oh and if you do it and then take off down the road and stack the car........
REMEMBER you took advice off a drunk welshman...................
haha. thanks lads. I set off now armed with advice from a drunk welshman and a bunch of amateur comedians. How could I fail? hehe
seriously though, cheers for the advice. i'll be clamping with mole grips cos I don't have a friend willing to come out at 7am on a sunday to get dot 4 on his thumbs.
i'll let you know how I get on.......

Well I managed it without too much fuss. Only problem was not having an 8mm allen key/bit to take the caliper off the hub. Had to wait for halfords to open and then bend over as they shafted me for a single 3/8 bit.
So that's good. I did however discover that one of my front CV boots is split. great
cheers for the info on teh caliper. kept me right. I couldn't see anything too obviously wrong with the old one other than one of the guide pins was totally locked up.

I tried to free it but it wasn't budging. so I stuck on the new(ish) one I bought. It was in better nick anyway and the pins were well greased. didn't look to have done that many miles actually. Don't think the boot was split on the stuck pin but thanks for the offer mate. And I'll def be getting a new boot on the front as quick as I can. Of course doing all that took my time away from the s2. agh!
