    Vented S2 rear disks

There is a company who make custom disks for one of the Morris Minor suppliers. These are to the patter of a Mondeo disk usually 4 x 108mm?
they have been made with 4 x 4Inch to suit the Minor wheels.

They may be able to make a custom disk to suit the rear of the S2 5 x 112mm.

What interest is there in this?

It needs to work with a readily available rear caliper maybe something such as a Ford or an Audi A8? suggestions again?

By having the disk made it would get round the need for spacers etc as the offset would be correct. They couls always be made with a 5mm spacer added in. The cost is not high as they are £40 a pair for the Minor fronts.

I personally don't feel they need to be enlarged or to be vented at the moment. Once I have got the Porker Calipers mounted I may change my mind.

      My suggestions are:
S2 standard offset and hub thickness,

Standard size and to use a cheap easily available caliper 25mm thickness?.

Other options may be to have a bigger diameter and/or thickness.

Efficient braking and not looks/ filling the wheel are important to me.

        Dave,
I have been trying for a long time to find someone who can make a rotor to suit.

I took an S6 269X22 rear rotor, had it cut down, welded back together and did a fit up on my coupe. I did this because I wanted to know what the dimension of the rotor would be exactly to fit with the S6 caliper. Then i tried to do a search of all rotor companies tring to find something close. I couldn't find anything.

I even did a drawing of the proper rotor for the S6 rear caliper and the dimensions.

I am personally going with the S8 and using the G60 Corrado 280X22 rotor. This had the closest total rotor height to the coupe. 39mm(Corrado) vs 40mm (coupe).

I also have a drawing of the ideal rotor for the S8 Caliper on a coupe also, but no pictures.

drawings the cut down S6 rotor is the 269X20
the S8 rotor is the 280X22.

I think if you are going to have rotors made, you may as well go with the S8, because the caliper is aluminum and it is the biggest size. Why settle for less? It would be great not to have to have rotor drilled and machined every time.

Please let me know if the rotors can be made. I will post A8 pictures as soon as the machinist is done with the Corrado rotor.

I did something similar to this using the S8 caliper/carrier parts and an A3 280x22mm front disc with slight mods machined into it, full details here .

Your posting is the reason I when with the S8 caliper vs. my orginal intention of the S6. That way I would not have to cut down the size of the rotor to 269, in additon to the other machining.

I only reason I went with the G60 Corrado rotor instead of the S3 or Mk4 VW, was the offset. The Corrado has a total height of 39mm vs the 36mm on the S3.

Otherwise, I am doing your conversion.

              Greg,

that does look like a better disc to use, by the way I got the idea from Tommy Arnberg on Kruemmer, I'm not smart enough to have thought of that one myself .

              Cheers,

Exactly! I'm mounting modded A3 front disks (280x22) and the large S8 calipper mounts. Either stock calippers with semi worn down pads, or some S4/S6 calippers...

Did I really post that!. I was talking about the disks Sounds like an objection to Viagra junk mail!

Anyway back to business, I will make enquiries about the disk Manufacturer and see what can be done.

I will make enquiries about the possibility of a 280X22 rotor. with 40mm offset. 5 x 112 pcd.

This is to suit the A8 rear caliper and mounting bracket?
is the S6 and S4 ( A4 version) the same?

I want to avoid the S4 (100shape) rear calipers as they are £300 a pair second hand! The calipers need to e readily available second hand.

Have I got that right? I was on site last night till late and My brain is not in gear yet!

The disks will be balanced, what finsih do we need on them ( to avoid corrosion).

I would suggest some sort of penetrative plating as done on the Porsche disks.

Has any member of the forum any suggestions ofn the best finish please?

Greg, nice work by the way.

There is a company in the States called Coleman Rotor as listed on www.bira.org , they make disks to suit.

They are quality and rugged and also light.

The quality of their casting looks great.

                          I have outline pricing.

280mm x 22 mm using Corrado casting, 5 x 112mm PCD with audi centre boss.

£28 inc vat each, subject to drawing, minimum order is 50 pairs ( 100 disks)

                          Any thoughts?

                          Anyone feeling flush?

                            David,
I would be in for a couple of sets. Without having to do machining, plus the shipping, the price would be about the same.

Of course, I don't suppose that price includes slotting and cad plate.

But there is one problem I found with the Corrado rotor just the other day. The inner diameter of the rotor, the part that mates to the hub, is too small for the 5X112 hub. I had to take my rotors back to the machinist and have the inner diameter machined to fit the 5X112 rotor.

So I would not use a straight Corrado casting, or you will have to have the inner diameters machine.

Can the company make the inner and outer hub mount surface a little larger? Say to the size of the standard audi rotor, or do they have to use the straight corrado casting?

I will enclose a picture later of S8 caliper with a corrado rotor, after aol lets me in my FTP space to upload.

This rotor may be a better fit. Take a look at it.

                              David,
It doesn't look like anyone is jumping on your wagon. Rear brakes it doesn't seem to be a priority.

I have been rethinking the corrado rotor. I have done my final fitup and I think it is too close to the caliper carrier.

I have been thinking along the lines of the original total height of the S2 rear rotor which approx. 39mm. But the one thing I did not take into account any variances in the caliper carrier between one car and another.

The first picture is of the corrado rotor mounted with the S8 caliper.

This second picture shows just how close the rotor is to the back side of the caliper carrier. This is too close. Especially since I mounted a used rotor that had been turned down to 20.5mm. I got the rotor free so I used it.

Now we have a tendency to think vag parts when trying to do fitups to our cars. But the rear disc I mentioned the other day, a Rover 75 front, would work and has a slightly less offset of 38.2. This would probably be about right as the split I have now with the Corrado is 1.25mm to the back of the caliper carrier and 3.25 to the front side of the caliper carrier.

It is slightly larger at 284mm diameter vs 280mm, but there is 3.5mm from the outside diameter of the rotor to the caliper carrier with the 280 disc. So plently of room for an extra 2mm of radius. Unfortunately, I cannnot buy this rotor in the states. Now if someone wanted to be nice enough to purchase a pair, after I pay them, and ship to the states for me.............

Let me know what you think about this rotor as a possibility, I just hate using shims. But if I have to use the S3 rotor I will.

                              Greg
