    Hat height on front discs

    Hi,

I have managed to get hold of a set of brembo calipers (4 pots) which i am 99% certain will fit for £165

As I'm about to get 18inch Rs4 (thanks to Doug persuading me a while back) and I am trying to work out what size disc i can get over and above the A8 323x32 discs.. I think there is a 355m version too but I could be tempted with getting some discs with made to measure bells.

    Any ideas guys?

    Cheers,

    David

I would stick with off the shelf disks, having read about the problems that people have had with seperate disks and bells alcon etc.

It's even better if the disks are from the same manufacturer. I have the 314 x 30mm A8 disks, I'm not sure how thick the 323mm disks are I felt they were still 30mm?

Be careful about the calipers as the porsche monoblocks I have are for a 28mm disk and can be stretched to go on a 30mm disk by filing the pad location pins.

The calipers needed for large diameter 32mm disk are from a Porsche 993 tt I feel. The disks were 323mm x 32mm. so 355mm wil be a bit of a stretch. How about Porsche Cayenne calipers?

You would also have the extra expence of having to replace the bells every couple of disc changes...

I posted a thread from ultimategarage.com about bell problems, can't find it now.

thanks for the info guys....maybe stick to one piece items then. So 323x32 is the largest disc then for the pcd and hat height on an s2 then right?

As for the calipers, they are a road version of a brembo motorsport caliper, monoblock and i think 4 x 40mm pistons if i remember correctly...they can take a 300 to 350mm disc according to the owner

            Cheers,

I'd stick to the S8 disk, Martinjs has made some lovely caliper brackets to suit his S8 groved disks 323mm x 3?. He may be able to make you some as well.

I think the 300 to 350 is a bit wide for tolerance if you have decent fitment at one size you would have pads hanging over the disk edges at another extreme. The A8 / S8 front disks are fine for depth.

It's nice to have an assistant memory device.

Mind you the person who said you can only use the bells twice does sell them!

I prefer off the shelf items as you can get spares. Waiting for custom bits can be a little disheartening!

There is a company in America who were doing a conversion a few months ago for the S4 using these calipers! I have looked again and not found them

Lots of money but I bet you stop!

The S8 disk im using is 323x30, think martyn said there is a bigger S8 disk something like 330 - 340 something, cant remember exactly.
i have a set of brackets available at the moment for 323 disks.

There was a 340mm disk I think, this was for armoured/bullet proof A8 cars. The new A8 has a bigger disk as well.

David, I don't know if your holes are in the same place as the Brembo Porsche ones. I feel they would be similar.

yep, the mounting holes are 130mm apart and i think the offset is the same - will find out later when i collect them.

                          Thanks for the info

345x30mm fitted to the american A8, I have a set on the S4. It's a very nice disc (as discs go!!!), it would suit the GT3 caliper better, but the 996 Carrera caliper fits fine, pads sits central on disc face, after hitting it with a hammer first

Though not cheap £230 for the pair. Genuine Audi parts.
