Well I never even gave it a thought as I've never really worked on my own brakes apart from on the S2 and it's nearly always had the 4-pots on (with bleed nipples on the top and bottom). I didn't fit the 4-pots either, so don't remember what the standard brakes looked like.
Makes total sense now I think about it, and sounds so obvious that I feel like a right prat. Brakes are bled up and although it doesn't stop very well compared to how it used to do
they work.
So, if anyone is refitting standard calipers, make sure the bleed nipples are pointing upwards. My first bit of BTDT for someone

It has to be up or how is the air going to get out ?! The air is at the top, if your bleed nipples are facing down then thats your problem ! You will have a large amount of air in the caliper no matter how much you bleed them if the nipple is facing down.
