    Handbrake caliper

Well my front setup with the huge 4 pot Brembos are nearley compleate (picking the brackets up next week). (360x34 disc )

The next step is the rear, I have 'smaller' (comparable to 996 fronts!! ) brembo 4 pots to go on the back, looking at the S4 350x30mm 4.2 V8 front rotor to go on the rear of the coupe but i need to get a handbrake caliper, has any one any expirience with Compbrake of HiSpec calipers?

Brembo ones come in at 250+vat so this is not a realistic option (new ones any way), I may look for Astonmartin or Ferrari spot caliper form somwhere like Douglas valley but i fear the price will be an issue here!

Dont even think of posting Wilwood, iv seen the picture.

    Any thoughts?

I have urS4 calipers in my 90q. IMO there's no need to be bigger, the car is very nicely balanced under braking. Plus there are many other OEM solutions which are being used, so not many have separate calipers for handbrake I guess.

          How much power you running?
TBH i am going down the rear 4 pot route as i want as little weight transfer under braking as possible so this set up will be good for me.
What size disc is the urs4, maby i could utelise thos as handbrake only?

I think you'd think a fairly exotic rear bracket / carrier to accomodate stock caliper for handbrake (trailing position on Coupe) and something to carry a 4-pot caliper on the leading position.

300x22 is as big as I've seen anyone doing - with B7 S4/RS4 single pot rear caliper - easy enough on Avant, but troublesome on the Coupe cos of handbrake cable routing.

Hence 280x22 is good upgrade on the Coupe with bolt-on bits from UR/S4/S6 (single pot calipers with handbrake in right place), carriers from A8/S8 and those B7 300mm discs spun down to 280mm. Maybe not extreme enough for your application though.

Why do you spin the discs down? to acomadate oem the carrier?

Not much power, I have 323 with baby brembos at the front. The std. disc for urs4 brakes is 269mm, I use A3 front disc which has been modified a little, diameter turned down to 270mm. Anyway, with other tyres the car was slightly unstable under braking. Now with GY f1 it feels balanced. Even if I had loads of power, I don't think it would change the situation. With the A8 (edit: S4/RS4) calipers you should be able to run 300mm or something rear discs. Should be enough?

The way I look at is is that all the big league cars like aston martin, ferrari, porsche even evo and impreza use big brakes all round (admitedly evo and sti are only 2 pots, but still use large rotors),

Compromised cars like vxr, s3, fiat coupe, cossie use cost afective/compromised rear brakes, all use brembos (or simelar) up front but leave reas as standard non performace brakes.

Thing is I want the chasee to be hard and un compromised and able to do track days faultlesly, with daily driver power (RS2 370/380 kind of power).

The thick and thin of it is that power is nothing without control!!!

Ferrari, Porsche etc. have a very different weight distribution and suspension geometry also. I agree that it's a must to have good brakes, but overdoing the rear end can result to unstable behaviour under hard braking.

Yes - the A8/S8 carrier is for 280mm application.

The 300mm carrier from B7 S4/RS4 bolts up fine to the S2 rear and accomaodates disk and caliper just fine - only issue is the handbrake topology. See my thread called somthing like '8E0 rear brake upgrade' - there is at least one sticky on it.

if audi would have done the rear like a subaru with the drum handbrake we would all be happy.

must say i think you may be over doing things though.

i am yet to fit my rear upgrade but with the 6 pot's on the front there is little need unless you want somewbody to run in the back of you.

id put the funds and effort into the engine as rs2 spec aint enough to trouble the braking setup your gonna have.

whats wrong with the superlite 4 pot caliper that willwood do?

I had wilwood midlite on the front with 320mm rotors, i had major issues with just chiped ECU 280bhp.

All 4 discs glowing bright red total brake fade just 12-15 miles of hard driving, discs and pads were uprated all round.

Even with the wilwood's the weight transfer was quite bad under heavy last second braking (Like theres any other way) even with koni shocks and h&r springs, So to add 100bhp to the engine and to start doing more track work i would be more comftable with good brakes all round.

What have guys with rs4 8 pots up front donne with the rear?
