A little more difference between 8 pot 365s and 4 pot 314s though

I take from this that 996 monoblocks with RS2 carriers will just fit under 16" Avus for some but others have had clearance issues. Clearance can by improved by fitting a wheel spacer as that moves the wheel away from the caliper and because of the taper on the inside of an Avus wheel, using a spacer also gives more clearance between the inside of the wheel and the outside of the caliper.

So, given that the thickness of a standard disc is ~7mm at the point the wheel bolts go through it is there any reason a 7mm spacer shouldn't be made by just cutting the top off your old discs and using that as a spacer?

It would mean that the centre of the Avus wheel wouldn't be in direct contact with the raised part in the centre of the hub any longer but they'rd still be 5 studs holding it all
      Is that an issue?

Sort of a home made spacer!!!

You may have an issue with bolts...

AFAIK most after market ones are made for 10 or 15mm spacers... but from what I remember from fitting mine there is a large gap at the back of the hub or whatever its called... and the price of the bolts would nearly cost as much as proper spacers @120.00 a set of 4 with 20 bolts... (Kev - aka Bambridge)..

Two bolt-on options then with 16" Avus

1 - 314mm disc from A8, custom carriers (cheaper than modded Seat) and 996 monoblocks (adapted for 30mm disc)

          2 - 323mm disc from S8, RS2 carriers and RS2/968 calipers

Is that about right then ?
What about TT calipers & brackets with a 312mm disk as dicussed in this thread?

No confirmation yet if they need any spacers or machining though.. .

I know where i can get some calipers & brackets relatively cheap - but don't want to get them + shipping + new discs if they then don't fit straight on.

if you must have 16" rims id take the ones with the most clearance between wheel and caliper.

bigger brakes only work better when at temperature. on a cold day the first press is useless. a standard set of brakes is better at 30mph.

I prefer minimal clearance so that the calliper is held by the wheel when it falls off on the way home from a trackday

              Dest had TT calipers.

I recently did my brake upgrade, 996 monos from a porsche brakers (£220), referbed by Rob, 314mm discs & ds2500 pads, custom carriers & correct sized bolts, one piece goodrich hoses and ATE fluid.
This all fits under 16" with about 3-4mm clearance, very easy to fit with no issues or mods required,
The bad news is that this was all supplied by Corry (must have been one of his last customers), I dont know who made his carriers for him but the quality & fit is spot on. He also said he didnt recomend machining down the cast RS2 ones as this could compromise there strength.

Ok Guys..... Update on this thread....

Kev (Aka Bambridge) has been over to mine tonight and after a couple of hours meesing about with wheels spacers etc we have concluded the following....

He is now going to offer a "Slimeline Mounting Brackets" for people who want to use 16" Avus Alloys & Porsche 996.351.425/426 calipers, 314mm Disks & SPACERS.... See Notes Below

Avus 16" Alloys with standard 996.351.425/426 calipers & 314mm discs WILL fit, when used with Kev's NEW "Slimline" Mounts/Bracket BUT a set of 15mm spacer "MUST BE USED To give you the extra 2.5mm clearance due to the wheel taper...

Avus 16" Alloys with standard 996.351.425/426 calipers & 323mm discs WILL NOT fit, when used with a RS2 or Kev's "Standard" Mounts/Bracket Even with a 15mm spacer (which give's you an extra 2.5mm clearance due to the wheel taper)...

Avus 17 & 18" Alloys with the standard 996.351.425/426 caliper's & 323 Disks & 10 or 15mm spacers are (as we already know) a perfect fit with the RS2 Mounts or Kev's "Standard" Mounts/Brackets... As I have fitted to my car....

We also concluded that 10mm Hubcentric spacers wont work due to the overhang between the disk and where the drive shaft bolt sits in side... sorry for the poor description... hope this helps...

I have some in stock, wont take long to machine base, would need to spray base as its a minimum charge to get them re-anodised(if they can).
£110-00 a pair, with new mounting bolts delivered in UK?

ready in a few days if needed.

To make a new batch, (depends on interest) ready in 2/3 weeks
                        Anodised and new mounting bolts
                        same price

Also do wheel spacers so would do deal on both.

                        Cheers

Do a search for "avus 323mm" and educate yourself.
My advice is there for everyone else if they want it.
I know about fitting 996 calipers on Audi S2s.

Yeah they do, but the spacers give you another 2.5mm clearence each side, do to the inside taper of the wheel

Bry, why not fire off a drawing to Bambridge, your brackets fitted 314s & Monos fine under Avus 16s (6 spoke, 5 spokes are different in case that's the confusion).
